CB Radio
I know this will probably open up all sorts of brand wars but I want some input. What is the best mobile CB radio available? Which antennas for my truck? Is sideband used much? Is it worth the extra money to get sideband? I won't be using it for motormouth work, just when I need to communicate.
Re:CB Radio
Like you, I've been interested in adding a cb to the truck to augment the phone, which as we know has a bad habit of not working while you're out and about. Over the past few months we've had several threads relating to cb's. Suggest you utilize search and key in CB Radio. Do another on CB antennas. I think you'll find a wealth of information out there.

~Dave
Re:CB Radio
Cobra is a very good radio for the money. Ran a cobra 29LTD classic for years in a Mack I had and never had a problem with it. Uniden is also a very reputable brand and have heard good things about them too.If you are looking into a high end radio with extra channels, reverb, echo,etc.. Then look into a Galaxy. Just my opinion,
maybe someone else can add someting to this.

Re:CB Radio
Last 2 radio's I've had are Uniden Grant XL's,these have sideband and these readioes are easy to turn up. Buy a good antenna,a Firestick or Wilson. Don't buy a pretuned antenna, get one that is tunable.Firestik has a lot of info on their webpage:
http://www.firestik.com
Re:CB Radio
I'm either going to go with a mag mount Wilson 1000 or a K-40 antenna. The Wilson has a 2 year warranty, the K-40 a 4 or 5 year warranty.

Does anyone run either of these? Which is the best?

Thanks.

;D ;D ;D I use the K40 Magnet mount, with a cobra cb with all the extras and it works great....I would recommend them both for what you are going to use it for.
Side bands are nice....but you have to find somebody that has one to be able to have a conversation with.
Not everybody has one.
And they are costly.
Allen
Re:CB Radio
I have been running the Galaxy DX73V(modified a little) with the Wilson mag mount on the top of the cab. This combo, by far, is the best setup I have ever owned. All of the stick antennas I have owned do not hold a candle to this antenna.
Re:CB Radio
I am running a Cobra 25WTX(peeked and tuned to max legal limit) with dual Wilson Firsticks. I have had no problem with it so far. The CB makes a great addition to a radar detector if your foot is a little heavy. It was factory recon, it failed the initial quality inspection at the plant, but was reworked before it was sent out, translated to $50 lower sales price. I have my antannas mounted w/ spring loaded flip over mounts so that I can pull into the garage with out having to remove them.

Uniden and Cobra are the same radios just packaged slightly different.
Re:CB Radio
Going way back (late 70's) it has been nothing but Cobra radios. Some were bearfoot, others were tweeked and peaked. All worked real well. As for antennas, I've tried just about everything from fender mount, mag mount, trunk mount and sticks. The best by far was the K-40 mag mount. Did have to replace the magnet after about 10 years. Still got that antenna in the garage someplace.

Now that I have my ham ticket, I use Icom radios and various type antenna for different bands. I can talk around the world from the truck.

Butch
K4SM
Re:CB Radio
I run a cobra 148 and a K-40 I love it. I still haven't put it in this truck but in my other it was talking from KY to VA on a regular basis. The radio is peaked tuned, and has a mod kit. Then after the radio is a Silver Streak 250 watt remote controlled linear amp. Remote so it can be hidden from those full grown bears. It isn't a big linear but it makes a difference when busting through the jibber jabber on the interstate. I love cbing and see it as a hobby as well as a communication device.
Oldred walking wall to wall and treetop tall. We gonna back em down sit back and check the mail for a while. I'm out.

Thinking of installing a CB. It' been 25 years since I had my last one. (**** .... I'm just going to get a beer).

It's hell being faced with that kind of reality. :-[ Harsh.

Anyway, has anyone used or know about the Cobra 75 WX-ST. It's the unit that has everything built in the mic. It got a cool rating of 10 +, but is it a good radio?
