Building The Ultimate Steering Setup
Building The Ultimate Steering Setup
Alright, steering/suspension gurus, I need your help! I want to start preparing to rebuild the front of my truck but I want to make sure I get it right the first time. I want to do EVERYTHING! I dont want to do it partially or miss something, I want to address all the front end components at once. The problem is I don't know alot about steering/suspension components so I need your help. All parts must work together and I want the best components (not necessarily the most expensive) but the best quality. I have never touched my steering components and its pretty bad, I feel like I owe the truck this.
Some parts I am considering but not sure if they play well together...
-DSS
-thuren track bar
-thuren crossover steering
-psc steering box (have heard mixed reviews)
-borgeson steering shaft (again mixed reviews)
-Rock solid bushing mod
-Some kind of dual front steering stabilizer, skyjacker maybe (I know this may not be quite as good as something like the thuren piece but I like the symmetrical look, if this is junk I may reconsider)
-Other stock parts (wear items) I might want to replace while I am in there??? (You tell me on this one)
Now, my goals for this mini build, I DON'T offroad and dont plan to so this is not a concern. I am NOT lifting the truck so this is not a concern either. The biggest tires I will most likely run are 305/65R17's so super huge tire are not a concer. I am more looking for nice tight handling, like road course handling, not offroad rutted roads handling. Basically I want the truck to handle as close to a sports car as possible. (Yeah, far-fetched with our front ends but one can dream, right?)
So let me hear your suggestions, personal, real-world experience preferred

It's not unrealistic, imo. With good components, it's can totally happen.
I'd say your list is pretty good.
I'd think the PSC box is the least necessary of your mods, but that depends on mileage. My steering is still pretty good at almost 70K.
The Borgeson shaft is more common on 1st gen trucks-- I haven't heard of a real need for it on 2nd gens and newer.
I'd also recommend new sway bar bushings and the MAXX Links that Hammer posted about awhile ago.
For a stabilizer, I'd just go with whatever Don Thuren recommends.
