broken output shaft
broken output shaft
Anyone ever broken an output shaft (non-billet) in a performance built transmission, if so, what were you doing at the time, and how much power did you have?
Mine broke today....nice and clean, between the t-case and trans, and I don't think I have enough power to have broken this on its own. I wasn't towing or the like.....just a little street driving under moderate throttle during a very short lived acceleration!!

yeah....I guess. But I must have clydesdales under the hood.....cuz my 300 or so are acting like a lot more in the eyes of that fusebox
I just hope my trans builder sees it the same way, otherwise I may have that excuse for buying them fangled billet thinga-ma-jigs all the real horsepower guys er usin
Or......maybe I have just been conservative in my power estimations. But I'm sure my build doesn't even come close to yielding the 450 ponies this thing is rated for...even at sea level at 50* most of the time and 80% humidity!!

Well ATS has stepped up to the plate again. Against their warranty policy on shafts, they are sending me another stock output. This is fine just to get her rollin again. I will say though, that the support was excellent and to date, I have not put out one penny on replacement parts. After talking a while with Joel, I also realized I might be expecting too much from the trans. I purchased a "450 hp" trans, and drove it as some ATS front line people said was okay. As it turns out, my stage IV isn't the brute that I treated it as. I also thought a stage 5 was the ultimate. But there is a stage 6 and a stage 7 as well. These involve the addition of input and drum (stage 5), intermediate and outputs the more stages you climb. After talking with Joel, I realized I need the full treatment for the performance I want out of the trans. So I am saving pennies for shafts. Eventually I will get this trans ready for 600 hp.

oh, and by the way, has anyone ever had any trouble with their 241 HD t-cases? Are there any recommended upgrades?? I have not heard anything in this arena and am curious why these things are putting up with the high power of a CTD without modifications?? My chain may have a little slop, but for an ex plow truck with 150K, its not bad.
