both wheels driving

Looking for thoughts and comments on what is available for a dana 80 with 3.54 in a dulley? I am sick of having only one wheel peel. Is the stock LSD any good, how about a detroit locker or a air locker? What will handle say 1000 flbs the best?

Stock LSD is awesome if you ask me. Mine, my dads, and my uncles, always pull with both rear wheels. When i do a burnout, its with both tires, not just one. My buddies is open, and he just spins one tire. I really like the stock LSD, and wouldnt want a truck without it.

I recently went with a Detroit Power Locker. Huge improvement in traction and still provides the benifits of an open diff until you get on the power then the diff locks up nicely. I dont care for the air lockers unless you are an off road junkie.

Take the carrier out and take apart the diff. You will find that the LSD has the clutches and steels stacked to eliminate the majority of the clutches from working. (Three or four clutches in a row then three or four steels in a row). This is done because of yuppies complaining about the chattering of the rear while turning sharp in the parking lot of the Starbucks Coffee Cafe. Just re-arrange the clutches and steels in the proper order (clutch, steel, clutch, steel) so that they all function and you will have yourself a real LSD. I do think that the order is such that at least one clutch or steel needs to be double stacked..... I did mine about three years ago, so I cant remember the exact pattern and number of clutches/steels etc. Do a search or call Dana for the exact arrangement.

Like I said, I did this three years ago and have yet to get only one wheel to spin even in a hard turn (can you say sideways !!!)

The Detroit is probably the most rugged choice out there, but it does have some trade-offs. Because of the abrupt nature of the beast, there's a lot more (in my opinion) shock transferred to the ring/pinion ujoints etc. But, will it ever break/wear out? I doubt it. It does add quite a bit of lash to the rearend which can be annoying, but I've learned to live with it/drive around it.
