Boost Gauge install
Boost Gauge install
I am pretty sure that the boost port is a 3/4 NPT. I bought a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer to install a boost gauge. I got the plug out but the fitting I bought does not fit into the port. Different threads? Is there different types of pipe threads? I got my triple gauge pod installed but so far no gauges are hooked up. Took me about 4 hours to get the gauges in. Looks cool. But what about the boost port?

Tim
Re:Boost Gauge install
It is definitely 3/4" NPT. There is a 3/4" hose thread (I think that is what its called) that would be what you would use for a garden hose. Are you sure you are taking the right plug out? It should be above and to the right of the filter cannister and to the left of the Map senser
Tim
Re:Boost Gauge install
Yep I got the correct plug out. I compared the fittings and they "look" the same. I just do not want to cross-thread into the block. I swear its 3/4" NPT fitting that I got. I can screw the plug in by hand but the fitting will not even start to thread into the port. The 1/2" reducer I got threads into the 3/4" reducer just fine. That leads me to believe it definetly is a npt thread. My plan was to get a 3/4" to 3/8" reducer in one step, but no luck. So, I got a 3/4" to 1/2" and 1/2" to 3/8". I am going by the parts store tomorrow and try again. I got the last 3/4" reducer at the hardware store, but it shouldn't matter should it?

Tim
Re:Boost Gauge install
I had a similar problem, I had to screw, the smaller adaptor into the large adaptor, then grind the hex part off the large adaptor to make it round to fit, and screw them into the manifold with a small socket on the small adaptor.
Re:Boost Gauge install
We did not have this problem. We used the PDR boost fitting. This replaces a bolt on the top of the intake manifold. Very slick, and easy to get to.

Like this

Hope you get your situation handled.
Re:Boost Gauge install
I got mine at a small hardware store and it was a 3/4 to 1/8 in galvenized reducer. I cant belive you cant find one. The more fittings, the more possible leaks. Did you check the threads by placing them next to each other?
Re:Boost Gauge install
All mine came from local hardware store. Maybe you got a bad one. As far as # of reducers, just make sure you coat all threads with pipe sealant and you will be fine. The adapters ,like the PDR mentioned, are great but the way you are doing it is fine also.
Tim
Re:Boost Gauge install
Ok, status update. The original fitting I got from the hardware store (brass) definetly has different threads. I went to my hardware supply storage where I work and got a 3/4" to 1/8" adapter thats just normal black pipe material. The threads are definetly different. Hum..I thought NPT was NPT no matter what. I will try this new fitting tonight. So for now I have a triple gauge pillar mount with all the gauges installed and all that works are the lights.... I will finish the install this weekend. I was a lot more of a job than I had planned. I took my time so everything would look right the first time. So far I am about 4.5 hours into this job.
Re:Boost Gauge install
Sounds like you got the right one this time. Mine was real easy to get together, just dont use pipe dope or it will plug the line. Use teflon tape. The only problem I had was trying to get a socket in the space to tighten it up. When I got it tight I couldnt get the socket back out.
