Bent a pushtube.

Anybody know if there is an upgrade for the pushtube and rocker arms for the 24 valve?
Billet and chro-moly would be nice.

If not, I'll put some stockers back on. Thanks in advance.

If that's what you want, they will have to be custom built. Might not be a bad idea.

Why did you bend it? sticking valve or too high RPM?

It can happen from extended idling too.

I'd say it's a sticking valve then...

Yeah, sticky valve. A bit too much idling. I thought I bent a valve but after playing with it, it slowy came back up. I just need to clean it off, (the varnish)

What is a good oil varnish residue remover?

There's a TSB on this. The solution outlined in the TSB was something along the lines of letting the engine rev to 3000 rpm in neutral for a couple minutes

The TSB refers to valve deposits from extended idling and THIS supposedly causes the bent pushtubes.

Let me see if I can find the TSB text....

FOUND IT:

STICKING VALVES - SERVICE PLAN

Short Term:

Reactive short term: Repair and clean cylinder head as required.

Proactive short term: To prevent or decrease the risk of this occurring to an engine which frequently idles for long periods of time in arctic temperatures, Cummins recommends the following:

Use of a winter front on these trucks
Use of a block heater when the engine is idling.
If the truck is already equipped with an exhaust brake, it should be turned on during idle.
Prior to shutting off the engine after extended idling (6 hrs) it is important to bring the engine to operating temperature (minimum of 140 degrees) to remove any carbon build up on the valves. This can be accomplished by driving the vehicle for 20-30 minutes or;

NON-Chrysler: Operate the engine at high idle for 5 minutes or until engine reaches 140°F.

Chrysler: Run the truck at 2000 rpm for two minutes, 3000 rpm for two minutes and then 3500 rpm for two minutes, until the engine reaches at least 140°F.

probably pretty tough to get it to 3500 rpm with a 3200 rpm redline

just because it redlines at 3200 doesn't mean you can't go past that. Our tachs go to 4 if memory serves me right...

In neutral or park I can hit 3500. In drive I can only hit 3200.
