Beginner 12V Questions

I am a new member and before i ask any questions i just want to say GREAT FORUM!!! I recently bought a 215hp 98 2500 4x4 with an NV4500. Being a HP nut I decided to shop around to see how I could better my new truck. As of now I have only purchased the #10 plate from TST but am looking for some insite on some cost effective power mods. For now I set the plate in the stock possition due to lack of funds to puchase guages (I hate layoff season). Part of the lack of money is due to the new clutch and hydraulics I had to install already (SBC13-1.25CON-FE). I have been doing a considrable amount of research and now have a few questions. First, where do i buy a fuel pressure gauge that reads over 30 psi? All of the kits and individual guages I have looked at only read 30 and if i do all i plan it would be nice to have. Second, what kind of difference would a bigger turbo housing make? With the amount of fuel im thowing at it the stock turbo has no idea what to do with itself till around 1500 when it smooths out. I was looking into a 14cm non wg housing. Just wondering if its a bad idea. Third, what kind of injectors do you guys recomend? I was looking into a set of bosch 370s but was wondering if its wrong to overkill on injectors before buying a new turbo? Any help that can be given will be greatly appeciated. I plan on purchasing guages before doing any of this but just enjoy learning for now.

Welcome to the forum. I'm a n00b too, however I can tell you from my all around turbo experience that if you buy a turbine housing that has no WG, then you'll need an external WG. This means that you'll either need to modify the stock manifold to accept one, or you'll need to buy an aftermarket one that has a provision for an external WG.

welcome aboard! do a search on the KDP if you havent taken care of that already... other than that sounds like your headed down the right road. gauges first... then i'd slide the plate on forward. 370s are good bang for the buck, everybody has they're own opinion on injectors but they're good if your on a tight budget. stock turbo should be alright w/ a 10 plate and injectors (with quite a bit of smoke) beyond that you'll need to upgrade.

You don't need an external wastegate if you have a non wastegated housing. They are nice but not necessary unless you are going to be pushing a lot more power. I have seen a couple people just put in laser cut delivery valves with their stock 215 injectors and push over 400hp. I would say spend your money on the simple stuff first, gauges, air filter, exhaust , then start adding more fuel.

It's a pin in used for alligning the timing case. It can back out and fall into the timing gears, causing major damadge.

The arrow points to it-

welcome!
First you need gauges. Why do you want fuel pressure? Its not really nessasary on a 12valve (of course our other 98 12v has one) What you NEED is exhaust gass temp gauge. After that boost is good to have then whatever. The KDP is a cheap but kind of a pain to fix but its something you should really do. Exhaust and intake should be done. No real power gains but it keeps things cool. Heat is your enemy here with power. You allready have a clutch that will handle 1000foot pounds or so if I remmeber right. 370 injectors are the best bang for the buck. Alot of power for a good price. If you really want a set let me know but if you want to spend a little more money DDP's from what I understand run smoother and cleaner. In my opinion if you change out your injectors you need a new turbo to keep the heat down. 370's will really cook esp with a 10 plate. Lastly a 3000rpm gov spring kit is really nice on these trucks. If your on a budget you might want to think about the KDP fix, EGT gauge, and a 3000rpm GSK. See how that goes for you. If I can offer any more help please feel free to PM me at anytime.
