bed mounted oversize spare tire carrier?

I've got 35's mounted (so the one underneath had to go and a 35 just wont clear under there) and was wondering if anyone has ever seen a bed mounted carrier for the spare like you see on some of those heavy-duty off-road rigs. I know they are mostly custom jobs but i was wondering if anybody sold them pre-made before I break out the welder and make one myself.

http://www.spencerlowracing.com/prod...re_carrier.htm
Here's a link to one. There are several brands available. Personally, I'd make one myself, though.
Chris

Fabtech makes one but it's pretty expensive (like most of their stuff). Check out 4wheelparts.com

Re:bed mounted oversize spare tire carrier?

A while back I went to 33" tires on some nice 16.5x9.75 wheels.
An exensive combination.
I did not like having the spare tire just sitting in the bed of the truck.
I went to a local Iron shop and they quoted $150.00 to build a nice looking tire mount that will bolt to the existing holes in the bed where the 5'er hitch mounted (Prevous owner).

One issue to consider with several aftermarket designs is rear view mirror sights.
Several bed mounted spare tire holders I saw tilted the spare tire up about 30* or so.
This blocks any view out of the rear view mirror. Looking behind you using the rear view mirror produces nothing but the image of you spare tire.

The mount I was going to have built (And still planning on it) places the tire horrizontal in the trucks bed and places the tire flat on the mount. This is so that the wheel does not scratched by vibrating up against the mount itself.

Rich.

Re:bed mounted oversize spare tire carrier?

i built one in the bed of my ranger- mudrunner, it bolts up to rear box bolts and is hinged on the bottom so i can flip it out of the bed for better access. I run 33s on steel rims , so these get a little heavy to be throwing up into the box. I put the easy twist handle that holds the tire down on the carier and a spot for my 4-way and handy-man jack. i built it for about 10 dollars. i will try to get some pixs

Re:bed mounted oversize spare tire carrier?

Thanks all. I wanted to mount it on a little bit of an angle anyway so I could get it against the back of the bed and still clear my stacks y-pipe. Go 4LO..I will try to get some pictures up soon. Been meaning to take em but the truck is always dirty for some reason. ;D I'll try and wash it in the next couple days....if it doesn't snow again. :P

Re:bed mounted oversize spare tire carrier?

It should be less but I think it's nearly double :'(, I picked mine up at a local retailer for 295 each including balance and installation.

Re:bed mounted oversize spare tire carrier?

That's what I was thinking.
I remember my old Ford.
I put 16.5's on it, and they were 15 or so bucks more per tire than the 16's ???
Exact height and width, just 1/2 inch less rim.

They look and sit exactly like I want mine to.
Spring can't come quick enough.
