I just installed two red top Optimas last month. Got them at BJs, paid $99.00 ea. Been real cold (0*f or colder overnight) here the last two weeks and she turns over with no complaints what-so-ever.

Optima! I just finish putting a set in my 01 about a half hour ago. I could not get over how fast it turned over after swaping batteries. I am also loking forward to not having to clean battery corrosion ever again. To me, that is worth every penny I paid for them!

Optima is a very good battery BUT if you want the best check out Odyssey batteries.
www.odysseyfactory.com
www.enersysinc.com
They cost more than Optima's but will be the best and last batteries you'll ever buy.

Mr. Bobs Distributing carries Odyssey's

It all depends on where and what your truck is used for.

Odyssey and Optima are dry cell batteries........ they are 100 times better than a Diehard Gold or even Interstates. I had pair of Interstates for a while and they were great until I interduced them to some terrain in Baja. Odyssey's are what the military puts in their tanks and aircraft..... need I say more ?

Optimas are gell cell batteries, not dry cell.

Yes, I misprinted. Odyssey is a drycell. Optima has the spiralcell.

34/78s will fit but at almost double the cost and a bit more CCA a group 31 may fit.

The 800S series fits great and has plenty of juice to run the grids and crank the engine way below zero. The batteries are smaller and you need to take care that the hold down bolts don't hit any wiring down below since they will protrude out the bottom more than with the stock sized battery.

What is the difference between the 800s and 34/78? Both have the same dimensions, CCA, and reserve. Just a different name for the same thing?

I think optima sells an adapter plate that fits on the bottom of the battery to bring it up to the correct height.

Any thoughts on 2 redtops vs 2 yellow tops? I know yellow tops are not meant to be starting batteries but with 2 of them would it be OK?

I'm sure the yellow top will work but it costs more and has 50 less CCA in the 34/78.
