B-1 vs Piers' HX-40
Re:B-1 vs Piers' HX-40
Justin,
I know where you can get a cutom HX-50, that is a direct bolt-up (same $$ as B1). If you are interested let me know. You may not like it though on your automatic.....it may be real slow. It would be interesting to try. I am really happy with it on my truck.
I know that you have to fab the downpipe and use an adapter plate to your exhaust manifold for the B1. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that is what I told when I was considering one.
Bill

Bill,
Thanks for the info!
I am not really interested in using the B1 at the moment, but I have a great respect for it and the numbers it can provide as a single unit.
Bill, you ought to come out next year to some of our sled pulls
in the southern Indiana area!

Re:B-1 vs Piers' HX-40
It bolts to the stock exhaust without an adapter. Most people already have an ATS manifold tho.

The fabrication required is making the downpipe accept a 4.5" outlet. There are a couple of different ways to go about this.

Re:B-1 vs Piers' HX-40
Hi Rob,

Unfortunantly there is no published compressor maps for the B-1 and many of the housings that guys are getting are the smaller, more restrictive and equilvalent to about 12CM squared HX35 housing to help get the mass of the heavy shaft and wheel combo that turbo uses to spool. This adds to restriction, but it does lower the moment of inertia (spool time) Trade offs like always.
The H2E on the other hand uses a 17CM squared housing which lowers restriction and the wheel/shaft combo is somewhat lighter to give about the same moment in spool up. Compressor maps show the CFM delivery of the H2E at around 750 at a pressure ratio of 2.7
Word on the street is the B-1 is supposed to be around 900 CFM, but we dont know at what pressure ratio this is or the wheels effeciency in the higher PR areas of the map.
I like the large housing B-1, but the lag can be somewhat painful.
Short answer is the B-1 may make more CFM but the H2E can potentially expel more CFM of exhaust gas. It goes back to trade offs.

Don~
Re:B-1 vs Piers' HX-40
Rob,

I think Larry C. has the big B-1 and it has worked very well with his engine. I did not speak with him about lag, but his high HP numbers are good with the turbo for sure.

We all know I dont mind a bit of lag.
I prolly win that award.

Don~

Re:B-1 vs Piers' HX-40
Larry does have the big housing, I've been tryin' to catch him. I was hopin' he was going to Jesup GA for the pulls next week, but doesn't look like he'll make it. He has one tuff truck.

Later, Rob
