Aux fuel tank problems
Aux fuel tank problems
Hello All,
I'am just about stumped. A short history, I lost power whether I was running on fuel from my original tank or the aux tank that I put in the bed of the 1999 Dodge shortly after buying it in 1999. I took it to the local Dodge dealer and they said I needed a lift pump and an injector pump. I found a diesel shop in Pensacola and got both done as well as a filter for about half what Dodge wanted. Now it runs well on my original tank but as soon as I flip the toggle switch to pull fuel from the aux tank it loses power and smokes blue. I drew out about 15 gallons of fuel and poured some into a quart jar and it seems to be clean, then I went under it and found two inline filters between the tanks and the electric gizmo which allows me to draw fuel from which ever tank I want to use. Both of them was clearly dirty so I replaced both thinking that I probably had found the problem but no such luck, it still loses power and smokes blue when I switch to the aux tank. I then opened the cover exposing the rubber hoses where they connect to the tank, removed both as they seemed to be cracked, cut them off and refitted, drove it and the same thing as soon as I switch to the aux tank. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? Thanks, Sonny

Did it ever work right? Where is the fuel pickup is there a tube dropping down into the tank? or are you pulling the fuel from the bottom?
I think I would put the lift pump back by the tanks for sure.
