Autometer Pyrometer Diagnosis

I have had gauges on my truck for about four years now. I have had a re-occuring problem with my pyrometer. It has quit working most of the time. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it seems to "stick" right at 1020* and will not move. When it does work, I can shut the truck off and crank it right back up and it will usually not work. I have rapped it with my hand and got it to work, but only once or twice.

This is an Autometer pyro mounted in an a pillar mount with boost and trans temp gauges.

If you look at the gauge, the 1020* mark is exactly 180 degrees (half circle) from the zero mark. I have caught the gauge moving rapidly during hard accelaration and it goes from zero to 1020* almost instantly and just stays there.

What do you think? Meter bad is what my experience tells me.

Thanks in advance,

Ronnie

Contact Autometer. When my Ultralight pyro started sticking, they not only stood behind their product, they upgraded me to an NV series-- FOR FREE!

Fantastic customer service from Autometer, imo. Even given that their pyro failed me (after 3 years), their support won me over.

I am not impressed with my autometer guages. Since I opened my boxes the pyro bottoms out at 250 degrees even with the truck off it wont go 0 Also my boost guage sits at 6lbs with truck of or at idle. Maybe I should give them a call see if they have any ideas?

I would've contacted Autometer long ago. They have great customer service and I'm sure they will replace your gauge hassle free. I sent my last pyro in and they sent me another one.

I called Autometer today and got to speak to Eric. I told him my problem and he said it sounds like a failed probe. So, I followed his directions and removed the yellow and red leads from the back and turned the ignition on. According to Eric, my gauge should point to about 100* showing it is in calibration. It did not. I called back, got Eric and he told me to send it in to Chicago marked "Service". I will include a note and return address. Maybe I was sweating a new guage for nothing.

I will post my Autometer response when it happens.

Thanks,

Ronnie

Smile Update

I got home today and found a box from Autometer. Inside is a complete new gauge including extension harness and thermocouple.

I quickly installed the gauge and wired it up. Works great! My new 3KGSK are only reaching about 1000*, so now I need more fuel

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Thanks for the update! The best customer service is the one that's never needed, but it's nice to know there are still companies that care about their reputation.

Thanks.
