anyone w/a 2002 w/comp?
i installed my comp today without the pump wire and the ck engine light came on. per the edge directions i ck'd the map connection and it was fine. i reinstalled the batteries and turned the ignition on, the ck engine light was on again. i couldnt get ahold of anyone from edge or rip's site to ck this so i just un-installed it. after taking it off, the ck engine light went OFF. has anyone had this happen or know what i should do?

Re:anyone w/a 2002 w/comp?
at first edge sent me a 2001 comp, which didnt have the correct map plug. when i called rip at source automotive he said he had someone that went through 4 comps on a 2002 before he finally got one that worked. i have heard from other people that this is common, but i dont know if it's just common with the 2002 comp's or what cause i didnt think to ask. hopefully i can get this figured out. i have heard that the EZ is the way to go to avoid these hassles. i'll call edge tomorrow and find out.

I didn't have any problems when I hooked up my comp. No check engine light, nothing. ;D Might want to try some dielectric grease on the connections.... ???

mine went smooth as well. make sure you measure 12v on the top side of the #17 fuse. Also, if you have not hooked up the pump wire, where do you have your comp box ground connected? you must connect the ground even though the pump wire itself is not connected.

There is a sheet metal screw right on the cowl on the drivers side. you can use that for a very easy ground connection.

I'd say if you ground your box properly, and you are certain you have a good 12V source (top of #17 fuse NOT THE BOTTOM), then you probably have a bad comp box. just make sure the MAP sensor connections are good -- thats where the check engine code is coming from.
Re:anyone w/a 2002 w/comp?
according to edge, they think i should hook it up and try driving it to see if it "runs like crap" and see if the light goes out after that. i think that if it starts running like crap that it would be messing something up while doing so and doesn't seem like a very smart thing to do. they weren't very willing to accept it as a return, but said they would swap out the wiring harness first then if that didnt solve the problem, they would swap out the comp box. one would think they would want to make it right the first time and just send a new one.
Re:anyone w/a 2002 w/comp?
thinking about this, it seems reasonable to me that they would start with the harness. The nature of the problem you describe is consistent with bad wiring, mis-connection, or something. Of course, a completely dead box would be too, but what you are experiencing is so unusual that I think they're trying to balance cost and effectiveness.

Where do you have your ground connected to? and do the lights on the box come on? What visuals to you observe on the box itself?
Re:anyone w/a 2002 w/comp?
here's the scoop. talked to edge again, but a different guy. he put me on hold and went to ask someone else what the problem could be. according to whomever he talked to, on the 2002 ctd's the ck engine light will be on until the engine starts for the first time (even thought the directions say differently). if the light stays on, drive it for awhile and see if the light resets itself after about 6-8 ignition cycles. low and behold, after hooking it all up and starting it, the light went off. now the light doesn't come on when you first turn the ignition on, but instead comes on while cranking the engine and shuts off as soon as the engine fires. and it seems to work, although it's no tire melter, it is a noticable amount of power increase.(still no pump wire though)
Re:anyone w/a 2002 w/comp?
Mine throws the light when you turn the ignition on I am sure its just a test so you know the light still works incase of a problem after cranking the light goes out and does not re appear.
