Anyone running propane?
Re:Anyone running propane?
Been there done that...
You could save some money and buy a box that pierces the wire and make more hp than with the propane. As for fuel economy with propane I did get a couple mpg better at cruise. But IMO was all negated by going out of your way to get it. And if/when it gives too much you get to replace the head gasket.

Re:Anyone running propane?
Dont do it.
Detonation, safety etc.
Propane is for powerstrokes.
You can make all the power you could ever want and more with just Diesel fuel with a CUMMINS!

Re:Anyone running propane?
Dont wanna start a war, but.... I LOVE my propane!!! 30% better fuel economy and an easy 50+ hp. Even with all the mods I have once the LP is on its a completely different truck
8). This is not a LP kit that is sold nationaly or anything, my girlfriends dad is the inventor of the system (extremely smart Cummins man). He has over 500,000 miles on his 1st gen. with propane for 450,000 and NO blown headgaskets. The truck doesnt even use a drop of oil and it is VERY quick for a rotary with basically no other mods. The motor has actually outlasted three truck bodies (2 Frods and the original Dodge) it is now mounted in a Chevy dually.
I dont know about the ease of getting LP in the city, I fill up from the same tank that I fill our trtactors on :
.
Stepping off my box,
Scott

Re:Anyone running propane?
My propane setup is homemade also. I have a 40#tank in my tool box. I am using an adjustable pressure switch to sense 12# boost and open up a NOS solenoid valve. Should have it done around Christmas. A friend of mine has one he got from Bullydog and it made a huge difference in his Powerstroke Excursion. I think he messed up though. He is putting propane in the airbox, so when he lets off the throttle and the pressure switch shuts off the solenoid, the intercooler is still full of propane. That makes it shoot a blue flame about three feet long out the tailpipe. I told him to move it to the intake horn for better response when switching on and off the bottle. That should also get rid of the blue flame. His setup has no guages on it though, and that really bothered me. I have a dual stage regulator with 2 guages so I can fine tune the pressur going to the system. With the Bullydog system you have no way of knowing how much propane you are putting in the system. I heard it should be between 6 and 12 # at the solenoid, but I will have to experiment. By the way his 8000# Excursion gained 11mph in the quarter while on the bottle.

With a fuel mix in the air box and intercooler sounds like he is sitting on a bomb waiting for a place to blow. I think he is taking the term of bombing his truck a little too serious. :- I wouldn't want to be standing in front of the truck if something went wrong.
Just my $0.02 .

BLUTIC,
You sound like your going forward with running propane. And it sounds like you are searching for big h.p. too. When the 12 valves where using it for big h.p. they were retarding the injection pump timeing. Your (2000) VP won't allow you to do that. My (2001) pressure switch was set at 7 pounds and the inlet was a couple inches in front of the turbo. If you haven't masterminded a differential pressure injection set up and run it into the horn (Like you mentioned above.)IMO you may be in for a real bad treat. And you were going to do this for throttle response? I have nothing against propane (Though I never got 30 percent better fuel economy with it.) it just wasn't the right answer for making big h.p. Perhaps this is just fate happening...
