Anybody done an aux tank in the spare tire well?

Since my spare no longer fits in the under bed area, I'm thinking of putting an aux fuel tank there. I'm thinking something along the lines of 2 16 gallon or 1 22 gallon racing cells. Connect them with dual lines top and bottom to the main tank. The tanks would be about the same depth as the main tank (maybe a little higher at the top) and hopefully wouldn't need any type of valving other than the rollover valves already installed. Anyone have any simple ideas? I'm not looking for anything in my bed so under it is about it....

Sounds like a good idea. My company's F350 service truck has the tank where the spare should be. Might scan the junk yards for one of those trucks for the tank then measure it to see if it would fit.

Yeah, I'm looking for something in my meager budget of around $200. I just want to figure out the plumbing before I do anything rash.... It seems that if I have the bottom of the aux above the bottom of the main and the top of the aux below the top of the main I should be okay with a sump drain at the bottom and a vent at the top connecting the two tanks....

My 97 xcab long box truck has a tank in the rear of the truck where the spare was. It is a 25 gallon tank that holds my WVO.

Im really interested in this too. Im looking for an aux tank for WVO.
frybrid makes a dodge-specific spare tire tank but its not cheap. Also there are plenty welders out there that will TIG weld you a tank together from aluminum sheet, but theyre not going to be cheap either. Its a lot of work to make a liquid-tight aluminum tank.
I could make one from steel, but it doesnt do well with WVO =(

I am pretty sure my tank is stainless and it was likely custom made? It was in the truck when I bought it.

I can fit a 32" long x 18" wide x 14" tall tank easily in the spare area where it would mount up to the cross-rail area near the tire winch (to be removed). I'm looking at this 22 gallon long tank (#11105) for $115:

This would give me an extra 400 miles and the ability to travel over 1,000 miles on a fillup. I would plumb AN-6 or AN-8 lines from the bottom to feed it to my main tank. You wouldn't have to do this with WVO if you had a pump. I plan on mounting the tank with straps or rods supportinga a metal plate that the tank would sit on. It would be held tight and secured with the straps. Any thoughts????
