The normal fuel line should be fine. Its just air.

Doj Dewd, you still have the stock HY35 turbo? I would just build a clamp that holds that wastegate closed. They do sell a j-hook and they are pretty cheap. I ran my little HY up to 37psi without any issues. You can build that, put its more stuff to get plugged up or break when your driving down the road, that could cause issues for ya. You could just rig up clamp out of stuff you have laying around the house. The HY doesn't have a boost elbow, that only on the stick trucks. If you want a bigger turbo to try out I do have a HX-40 available to try. Its been modified to operate up to 40psi.

I did a typo, the HY-35 doesn't have a need for boost elbow. It uses a J-hook, basically a spring with two hooks on it that you can tighten or loosen as required. It holds the wastegate closed.

Of course my info applies to 2000.5 to 2002 auto trucks. Sorry.

Don't forget the bleed orifice!! Otherwise its just a wastegate delay..

If you just have the pinch off allen screw without the bleed, all it does is delay the time it takes for the boost pressure to open the wastegate. The bleed orifice, if you look at the home made pictures, goes between the pinch valve (allen screw) and the wastegate actuator.

The wastegate actuator opens at 23-25 psi, thats just pressure against the spring inside. So the boost elbow now regulates the pressure to the 25 psi down stream with a higher pressure upstream of the valve, say 40 psi. The bleed orifice bleeds off a fixed amount of flow, to keep the downstream side lower than the upstream side of the pinch valve. Once the pressure gets high enough to overcome the flow out the bleed, the pressure builds on the wastegate and it opens.

I hope that helps..

yes, it does help.

ok, so once the elbow is drilled and tapped for the set screw, i must drill an orifice hole upstream (between set screw & wastegate). i think i'll have room on the elbow to do this - what size drill bit do i use for this?

I would just unplug the hose going to the wastegate actuvator and put in a bolt in the line. If you not going over 37psi, you'll be ok. Wastegates are more for protection of the turbo and trying to keep the turbo from over speed conditions by unloading the turbine wheel. Thats how I got my garrett set-up. I'm currently pulling 45psi and the factory was set at around 28psi.

as a result of a bit of research on here - i'm planning on keeping the stock turbo below 35 psi - so the controller would be really nice . . . but if it doesn't work out i can always plug it and then just keep a close eye on the boost gauge.

Which box and injectors you planning on going with? For the VP trucks you almost need little larger injectors plus a box to get to 35psi. The 35psi limit is that the turbo is on its maximum limit and will start pushing more heat than cfm (just not as efficent) Guys have run them to 40psi, the HX-35 turbo is a pretty tuff turbo.
