Air Horns

i was wondering, of those of you that have them, how did you put functional air horns on your truck? by this i mean, basically, how did you get air to them, i've heard of the manifold air horns but i don't understand how they work either? and if there is an air compressor, it must be electric or something right? and also, where'd ya get everything to make them work?

if ya can't tell, i'm kinda interested.

On my truck I have a separate compressor mounted back by the fuel tank. It has about a 1-1/2 gallon air tank, made out of a old fire extinguisher. I ran a hose up to the front and put the horns in front of the radiator just above the mud flap behind the front bunper. It is acktivated by electric swith that is mounted in my overhead switch panel. Just pull the chain.

I found my compressor on ebay, take a look in the car, truck parts and just search for air commpressor. Cadys, town cars and the like all use them for air ride. As for air horns the sky is the lmit. Theres a few of us that have the locamotive air horn if you realy need to get someones attention!!

I could have used that last night when a little mini cooper pulled out right in front of me at 50 mph. Thank God I have brand new brakes that worked perfectly! I missed hitting her by less than a foot, and I don't think that mini would have fared too well against the mighty cummins. BTW, she was on her cell phone... nuff said

I am running nathan airchime horns off a locomotive. I have a 18.6 gal tank and twin Viair 380 compressors. I run the tank at 200psi so I am able to run a impact gun off it too!

I am a distributor for viair here in Canada ...I can get you a price or look for your local dealer on there web site. They are a top noch quality compressor. They are not overly cheep but ... you get what you pay for!!

Hey Andrew! Do a search on E-bay. You can usually pick-up a complete kit for a couple hundred bucks. That's were I got mine, horns, tank, compressor, & hardware.

anyway, i did do a search and i found a couple of kits there, the ones that are most appealing to me are the locomotive ones, but they're over $300, might be worth it though. which ones did you get?

I tried that with an Audi A6. Didn't work out so well, especially for him.

I have a 10 gallon air tank in the bed with a 1/4" line to a lanyard valve on the A-pillar. Then the line runs to the horns that are mounted to the bumper brace behind the front bumper. I air the tank up where I work about once a month. No "on-board" air compressor. I have never run out of air blowing the horn yet and my kids make sure they get plenty of "air time". Pics are in my gallery.

I drilled at tapped my frame on the right side (just about window height for those talking on their cell phones). a small tank was mounted in the bumper bolts and the compressor was mounted to the frame again by drilling and tapping the holes...

I would of like to have traded the rims, but, they go with the truck.

Here is the kit I got and from the same guy! Awesome to deal with.
