i'm going to buy a clutch here in a week or 2 i have it narrowed down to three just can't make up my mind i will be pulling this truck in the street class and will be driven on the street alot
1)mitchell pulling clutch- PROS- has proven itself over and over again,will not slip,cheapest of all clutches,stock pedal pressure
CONS-i've heard you cannot shift it fast, shakes the truck
2)haisley street puller-PROS-heard you can shift it fast,will not slip,
CONS-price, has to be pulled out and inspected anually
3)south bend dd clutch the one right under the iron giant-PROS- customer service,years of building clutches.
CONS-has not been proven yet with a sled,dont know the price yet, extreme pedal effort

what else do you guys know about these and wich one do you recomend. more opinions i get the better it will help me decide. right now im leaning toward the mitchell

 

There all gonna have alot of pedal effort.
All 3 should be inspected annually if you are pulling hard.
Your right, you can't beat SBC's customer service.

I drive a SBC DD 3850 12Fe/Cb and it holds everything I can throw at it.
I have only pulled once on this current clutch and so far it is fine.
Hopefully it performs well this up coming season!

 

i have a crazy little idea i am going to try when i get my truck running, it involves using a brake master cylinder and another stock hydraulic booster in place of the clutch master cylinder. i am thinking about buying a bad-*** clutch but am going to solve the problem with pedal pressure. i'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

 

all i ever here is how great south bends service is but thdey don't have a price on their website i'm guessing it's probably close to $2500. that would be the same price as a mitchell and an input shaft

 

2500 for a clutch!! i think i'll just smoke 6 stock ones... might be cheaer in the long run.

 

SBC's DD "street puller" -- if you will.....basically the 3850 plate load 12 button clutches go for $1700 I am almost positive. However Peter's "Pulling" DD the "IRON GIANT" on his website is over $2000.... I "think" its right around $2500. Then you have to add the cost of the input shaft....which I'm not sure what Peter sell's his for.

I have the 3850 plate load 12 Ceramic Button DD in my truck and I LOVE IT! I have yet to pull on it however because I didn't get it installed until November. Dodgeman01 on this board has the same clutch in his truck with 400RWHP and he's been doing decent on the pulling tracks so far....he needs some type of traction device in the rear though his open diffs are killing him!

Go with the SBC DD you won't be sorry!

 

I ran both the 3400 and the 3850 SBC DD this season at the pulls. Not a problem at 600hp. I broke many other drivetrain parts pulling sleds, but not this clutch!

If you are going to pull there are some places require sfi approved clutchs & flywheels .I don,t know about SBC but Haisley street puller is sfi aproved. All 3 cluthes are good.I do have a few freinds that use the Haisley puller & the streetpuller clutchs hold up very well.Their hp go from 480 to 550+ hp one of them won Sheids 2yr in 03 & 04 they have no trouble with them. Van & Patty will help you out.

It matters because some of the pulls this year that are run by organizations won't let you pull unless you DD is SFI approved.

It doesnt matter if you are not pulling in those organizations.
Non SFI clutches have held up fine for years in pulling.
