3k gsk and 4k gsk

when going from stock to a 3k gsk or a 4k gsk does make it harder to control egt's? im going to install alot of mods soon i think i need at least a 3k gsk to spread everything out nicely but just wondering how those gsk's affect egt's.

plow,
Since I didn't have my gauges on before installing my 3K kit I can't honestly tell you if there was any difference before or after. However, I can say that with my setup now (BTW your 97 truck is very similar to mine other than fuel plate and intake air and a few other things ) I don't see any EGT issues being related to it. I do need a 4" exhaust to help control/reduce EGTs somewhat but that's not necessarily related to being able to rev higher now except that I'm fueling harder than stock due to my fuel plate while revving higher. Even with my current setup my EGTs aren't too bad or hard to control; they're low enough even when towing relatively heavy or using the power to pass several slower vehicles at a time on 2-lane hi-ways. My recommendation is do it. You will be glad you did.

The 3K or 4K GSK's won't raise your EGT's, just the opposite your egt's will lower as you will now have more air with the same amount of fuel. Before the 3K springs I couldn't increase speed to pass while towing after, I could down shift and gain speed without egt problems.

how does the power curve change when 3k gsk is installed? where does your peak power start at? its hard to explain what im wanting to know but right now our trucks rev up to about 2600 to 2800 stock and start losing power but with the 3k gsk installed will it still be gaining power at 2600 to2800?

The stock pump starts to defuel at 2150 - 2200 with the 3K springs defueling will start 3,000 and it will run to 3,400 or 3,500. This all depends on what other mods are in the pump, and the intake and exhaust being able to support with the air flow needed.

My EGT's skyrocketed after my 3k GSK installation, but the extra pep is worth it, and i think my timing is way retarded(never been set since 94 i dont think). With only a fuel plate, 3k GSK, 16 cm turbo housing, cone filter, and 4 inch exhaust, can peg my 1500 degree gauge from 0-60mph I think when i time it to 15.5-16 it will lower EGT's quite a bit. EGT's dont get warm until i get in the high rpm's. If i lock my converter taking off, where it keeps rpm's under about 2300 i wont see 1300 till 80, and i dont think they really climb any more after that. Definatley do this mod.
