I don't know why everyone thinks its hard to go through the top. I had no clue what I was doing, but just followed the directions city diesel sent with the kit and it went smooth. Because people say to tune from the top, so i figure it's just easy to remove the springs from there as well. I just stuffed a paper towel in there so no worries of dropping anything.

Side, top, whatever. Does anybody have a better picture of just exactly where to take the prescribed measurement? The only pics I can find are so fuzzy and/or dark as to be unreadable. If you extract the jpg file, it's such a lo-res file that blowing it up to look is a total joke. Instructions that came with my GSK (from TST) are identical in text to what is in the link above - but TST pictures are a whole lot worse!

TIA if anybody can help here... looking at weekend after next to do the job.

dosnt matter how you take the measurement as long you get the same measurement more than once you can count threads with your fingernail if need be. i use a digital caliper and measured a few times to make sure and never have to set the throttle or go in and readjust. the side is easier to install the kit and the top for adjustment if you need it.

I did it the first time through the top, it was pretty easy, but it is easier IMHO from the side. Everything is closer.

Is there going to be a trick to get the large spring past the rack when installing from the top? I had a look at how much room was in there when I installed my fuel plate. It looks like it is a tight fit to get that big spring in that small opening.

its a tight fit but its doable. if you go through the side its well worth it. once you pull the solenoid you'll see the plug and its easy from there.

Dshiftff (for picture that's CLEAR!) and clutch1, thanks, that helps quite a bit.

I had my work today trimming foal and broodmare hooves, tomorrow I will do some engine detail cleaning to get ready for next weekend (waiting on a couple of parts to show up still). I saw a vernier caliper at the Coast to Coast that looked OK for a decent price - my dial caliper for gunsmithing use would not be helpful in this case.

I'm guessing this is one of those operations that is just not clear until you get inside - and with my limited time available, I want to have all my ducks lined up right before I take things apart!

Thanks again, God Bless,
Kate

very simple, once you start you'll wonder why you put it off so long.

Linkage?

I'm following the PDR directions and going through the side. What is the wire/cable going over the top of the dust cover? is it a tamper thing or is it actually part of the linkage. After I took the solenoid off, it was right there, going almost over the center of the dust cover.
