2003 4" Straight Pipe - How Does It Sound?

I'm giving serious thought to putting a 4" straight pipe on mine from the turbo back..but I'm hesitant to do so because I've heard some folks around here say these trucks sound like ricers with straight pipes. For those who have them, are you happy with the sound??

Ive heard quite a few 03s straighted and I thought they sounded real good. But I also like the sound of my 5in. stacks bellerin against the back glass ;D and my B1 whistlin like a freight train . SO I guess my vote doesnt really count :.

Hoss,

We have sold a large number of our 4 inch system with our muffler delete pipe that costs a little extra. To date most, but not all of the customers that have purchased the delete pipe with the system have removed it and installed our Sprial Flow muffler.

Some folks call the 2003 a "ricer" sound, I been told it's kind of "wheezey" sounding and all kinds of descriptions like you wouldn't imagine from different owners etc.

The concesus is almost all of our customers went with our muffler and liked the sound that way over the straight pipe. Not all but the vast majority etc.

Mark @ DPPI

P.S. We also have sold a pretty large number of sperate mufflers for customers with other brand exhaust systems too!

Mark, so most of the folks who have gone with a straight pipe from you have come back and added the muffler in? How loud is your system compared to stock? I want to hear my exhaust, but at the same time I don't want to wake my wife and neighbors up when I leave early in the morning.

There's a couple of straight piped 03's here in CS Hoss and they sound great. They kept the stock piping though and just eliminated the muffler and/or the resonator (not sure if the 03's come with that or not). They are LOUD. But they sound great. Almost as good as mine.

Yeah...but the stock piping isn't 4"....or at least it isn't until you get past the muffler. I was thinking I'd go 4" all the way.

I actually heard a 4" all the way straight piped today right after I posted. All I can say is yuck. It didn't sound good at all. It sounded a lot like a ford. Real harsh sounding and poppy.

YEP!

Bigblue - was this truck pulling or not?

IMHO, I would by a system 4" or 5" all the way or whatever 5" has at the turbo with a muffler...also by the eliminator kit at the same time. Have that installed first. EARLY in the morning. Then drive around half the day and return to muffler shop to get the muff put on it........I bet you leave it this way.....

No. It wasn't pulling. It was accelerating really hard in the parking lot (parking lot traffic is nuts here ).

It sucks. Traffic up here is worse then it is in Sugar Land. People drive 5 under the speed limit all the time. I hate driving during the day down here. The only time I drive during the day here is to go to and from school. Other than that, I stay at my apartment until about 7. And then I go out.

Re:2003 4" Straight Pipe - How Does It Sound?

Hoss,

You'll definitly hear it, the muffler we have stops that ricewr sound that so many folks complain about if it's straght piped, but lets thru the "DIESEL" sound we all love etc. I doubt your neighbors will know you did anything unless you wail on it when you leave the house. When cruising it's pretty easy on the ears etc.

Mark @ DPPI

P.S. We do offer an optional muffler delete that you can get if you want a straight pipe system. We sell them in addition to the our DPPI system that includes the Spiral Flow muffler, we have found that most customers that get the delete and the system have the muffler installed in a few weeks.
