#10 and 3K GSK in!!!
#10 and 3K GSK in!!!
Just wanted to post up a big thank you to everyone on the board, especially Paul Winey, for their help and advice on the GSK install. It feels like I got myself a new truck!! What a difference from the Banks plate I had in it before. The truck is much more responsive and has a TON more low end than it did before. Now for the tech advice: When I installed the Gov springs, I went in through the side of the pump through the drivers side wheel well. I removed the shock tower and the shock, along with the fuel shutoff selenoid and a linkage bracket and it was right there. No real danger of dropping anything into the pump and everything came out fine. The instructions don't tell you that there are 3 springs that you have to remove as opposed to the two that go back in. I couldn't really feel the "clicks" that everyone speaks of so the stud measurement was very important. You will need a really thin magnet to retrieve the lower spring seats and smallest spring from the pump. I started with a bigger magnet, but soon realized it wouldn't work. I put everything back together the way it came apart and, with the exception of a simple idle adjustment, the truck ran awesome. So for all you folks, who like me, who are/were intimidated by the GSK install, don't be! Great mod for such a small price. Thanks again guys/gals for the advice, hopefully this post will encourage someone to get in there and install their own Gov. springs!

Well apparently this is where I read it, so which way is right?

The largest spring (on left) is the idle spring. You will need to REUSE this spring when doing a 3,000 or 4,000 rpm spring kit. The other two springs you will replace with the springs you received in your spring kit. When installing a 3,000 rpm kit, you will replace the two small springs with two slightly stronger springs. When installing a 4,000 rpm kit, you will replace the two small springs with the 3 springs provided.
Here is what Piers has to say about it.

12. Remove the spring retainer and all inner springs (leave large spring in place). Remove inner spring seat assembly at the bottom of the bore and remove any shims that are installed. Check for shims stuck to the springs or seats. Do not reinstall shims as are they are no longer required. Use only the springs contained in your new kit. Do not reuse any of your original springs other than the large spring left in place at the beginning of this step. See figure 3.
