'01 guage install
'01 guage install
According to UPS my guages will be sitting on my porch awaiting my arrival home from work. I would like to begin installing however I dont not have any of the fuel line or connections because I am still unsure of what I need after all my searching and dicifering. Does anyone have some pics and specifics on what connections I need and where it should be hooked up on my '01. All the pics I am finding on here are hooked on top of the fuel filter housing which I do not have. I think the boost and pyro is gonna be cake, just a matter of drilling and tapping.
Since this topic comes up so much I am planning on doing a write up for the tech section.

You can hook up for post filter at the bottom of the filter housing on your 01. You'll need a tapped banjo fitting. What type gauge are you installing? electric or mechanical. I ran 1/8" braided line to the gauge, with a needle valve at the filter housing. Some don't like running the fuel in the cab, and use an isolator instead.

Just got off the phone with Geno's. He wanted to sell me the 18" line they have premade that hooks to the schrader valve and then runs the isolator. I told him that I wasnt using an isolator and rather was going to put a needle valve and then run straight into the cab to the guage. He told me that it would burn out the guage without using an isolator. I advised him that many of the guys on here are doing it this way with no troubles. I am missing something here or did he not know what he was talking about. In the end I ordered the banjo and will have a line made locally.

how are you going to "burn out" a guage without an isolator??? Hes pretty confused. The isolators are not meant for and do NOT standup for use in a diesel application. I would suggest definitely using the needle valve like moose10 shows. And possibly throwing in a 12-18" chunk of grease gun hose before the needle valve to help dampen VP-44 pulses.
I'm also running the Isspro EV gauges and piped the stainless braided line into the cab and up to the A pillar. I bought all my stuff from Rod at Wildcat (no longer in business) and he had a fuel pressure hook up kit that consisted of the braided hose, AN to NPT adatpers, 90° needle valve, and a tapped banjo bolt. It's been on there for a year now with not one drop of leakage anywhere. Getting the large ends on the stainless line pulled up through the tight spaces between the dash and the A-pillar was the real trick.
Thanks guys, all my stuff came yesterday and I was very impressed with the service from dieselmanor. The quality of the guages looks superior to the autometers that I have in my other vehicle. I will be heading to the hardware store today to get all the little connections and then I plan on taking a day off on Friday to do the install.
Ok guys Im at work and got tired of searching for my answer. I wanna stop on the way home to pick up my needle valve and s.s line. Does anyone know how long I should have my s.s. line made up for? It will be hooked to the bottom of the canister of my '01 and then run to the pillar. I did find that it should be 1/16 right?
You found 1/16" braided line ???? What is that used for ?
I used 7' for mine. It left me with enough slack to zip tie it in a couple spots, route it smoothly with no tight bends, and have some slack to drop the whole pillar pod down or pull the gauge out of the pod for a bulb change if needed. Mine is 1/4" ID. Compare your fittings to the hose to make sure of the correct ID.
Just out of curiosity, what is 7' of braided line gonna run you? FWIW, my 300PSI rated hydraulic line from NAPA was right around $10 if I remember correctly. I'm not trying to talk you out of braided, just suggesting to spend your $$$ on something that will either enhance the trucks performance, or at least something you'll be able to see better.

Ok the guages are done and everything went very well. The look and function is great. I do however have one concern......fuel pressure......and wanted to post my numbers and get some opinions.
fuel pres boost pyro
idle 13 0 300
cruidin @ 70 10 750
WOT 5 20 1100
how do these numbers look???? and is there a way to double check fuel pressure before adding and replacing pumps?
