DC may match GM employee pricing

saw this a few minutes ago - I actually read it on the headline page when I was in the Rennissance Center at GM HQ in Detroit.

Do we think that news leaks like this hurt sales (for now). I know if I were thinking of buying an 05, I would be in a holding pattern to see if I was going to pay 4K more for not waiting.??
Just a thought.

Funny this came up. I passed a Ford dealer on the way home awhile ago and they had a big banner out front that simply said: "Employee Prices"

Just how much would that bring the price down on a $40,000 truck?

I love the GM adds "Employee discount............and you don't even have to live close to Detroit"

Now that GM is offering the discount, they might not keep hiring the type that is in the advertisement. Possibly their quality will go up.

I am always skeptical...What does the UAW think about this? Don't the discounted prices of the vehicles they make count as a benefit during negotiations? Are we as consumers really seeing the "employee price", or is this another "priced below invoice" deal, where the "invoice" isn't what the dealer actually pays anyway. What does all the hype actually mean? Are the car manufacturers actually coming out publicly to state their vehicles are not worth what they are advertised at? The first article above hit the nail on the head: Lower resale values down the road, and that doesn't just mean for 2005's. If people can get a used 2005 for really cheap, they certainly aren't going to spend more for a 2004. This may be a big mistake in the long run......

Of course, if I could trade my 2001.5 (as much as I love my truck) and get a new Megacab Dually Longbox (I know they don't make one) and keep a realistic payment, I would be tempted!!!

According to radio ads, at least one of the DC dealers here in OK is already offering the employee discount for a limited time. I also heard as part of the fine print on one of the employee price deals that the dealer retains all the rebates so I don't know if that is a true employee price or not.

If they advertise it is an employee discount, it must be an employee discount. Otherwise, it is false advertising and GM would not need a law suit right now. I believe it is an empoyee discount program. I have never seen prices that low and if I really wanted a GMC Sierra Denali I would hop on it. If I didn't have a CTD that spoils me, that would be my ride.

EDIT: This is an old news article I found:
Chrysler workers can now give away two employee-level discounts — which allows the purchase of a Chrysler vehicle at 4 percent to 5 percent below invoice — to whomever they please.

In addition, Chrysler workers can give away less-generous discounts — 1 percent below invoice — to four additional friends.

So say 5% off invoice... wonder if you get incentives too?

My co-worker bought an 05 chevy crew cab 6 months ago. 32k sticker minus rebates, incentives, owner loyalty and haggling. Got it down to 26K. He can buy the same truck, no haggling for 22K. I would say either way, 10k off the regular sticker is a good deal.

Individual ford dealers are offering employee prices, here in the st louis missouri area. I'm sure DC will follow suit...

my 2 cents

I'm sure there are multiple levels of "Employee Discount" and they aren't offering the best one to the average Joe.

My employer has had a long standing deal with GMC where we employees got an "Partner Discount". (I work for CBS, yes that CBS, the one that just loves President Bush )

This discount, while a pretty good deal, was just shy of what they are offering now.
I'm sure the real "GMC/Chevy Employee Discount" is still better than the current deal.

I received a call from a salesman last week from the Ford dealer that brought in the dually that I ordered two plus years ago.....the factory screwed it up (see sig). He said they were offering employee pricing as part of their "Blue Oval Days".

I respectfully told him after testing a 2003, two 2004's, and a 2005 through work, they'd have to pay me to drive a 6.0L diesel for a personal vehicle. Explanation: The trucks are solid. See my sig for my opinion on the diesel engines.

I'm not sure he liked my answer.
