Is this wrong?

My neighbor is a US Navy fan,he loves the navy but has never served,he wanted to but was unable do to an illness he has,but he asked me if it was wrong of him to were hats with the name of ships, like he has one that says USS Yorktown,he asked me because my brother was in the Marine corps for 30 years, but I have no idea,my bro is in Korea right know so I cannot ask him.
But is it wrong to wear a hat (ball cap type)since he never served??

Thanks

No more than for someone to wear a team jersey if they don't play.

It's the people who "Dress-Up" and try to pass themselves off as serving that make the Vets go .

Showing support of his military is not wrong in any way ... but like Shovelhead said, it's the guys that didn't have the nads to do it but walk around wearing uniform items and claim that they were in "the war" or were a SEAL and gutted a whole battalion of Iraqi's that need to be smacked.
Those guys really need to be drafted and used as a diversion for the real warriors.

Tell your buddy to wear the hat with pride and thank him for the support !!!

What Ed and Pistol said......

Showing support is one thing, playing make believe is another.

Wear the hat with pride and thanks for the support.

Besides, the various ships SELL those items to civilians to help pay for goodies on board. I've got a USS Maryland ballcap that I got onboard there back in the days when security was a little less tight.

When I came home from being deployed overseas, I brought several caps back and gave them to family and friends - wear them with pride I say!

Also, a friend of mine is a SWAT type, and he gave me a couple of their T shirts to wear. Several times I have been offered free cups of coffee from convenience stores while wearing them, because the cashier noticed the shirt and was trying to be nice. I always politely decline, and explain that I wear the shirt in honor of those that do the work.

Not trying to be preachy, just a word to the wise. When you give or recieve paraphanalia from organizations such as law enforcement, where them with pride, but where them cautiously. Whenever I give a friend or relative a hat, I always advise to take it off before hitting your local "7-11". At least be aware of your surroundings. If you go walking in on a robbery, for example, your gonna get blasted. You may also be setting yourself up for a line of interrogation by someone that has had a bad experience by that agency. Also, don't leave them displayed, unattended in your car window. Somebody may try getting "revenge" and damage the vehicle. Just something to think about.

Very true Redleg. Same exact reasoning I don't put certain stickers on my truck - sad, but smart I think.
