Alive! Workers Find One Person Buried in The Rubble of Friday Night's Tornado

GREENSBURG, Kan. (AP) _ One person has been found alive in the rubble of Greensburg three days after an E-F-five tornado flattened the town of 1,500 in southwest Kansas.

Kansas Highway Patrol trooper Ron Knoefel said Monday that the discovery late that night provides hope for the town still reeling from Friday night's storm that killed eight people.

The name, gender and condition of the survivor were not made known, nor were details of where the person was found.

Authorities say one of Greensburg's most prized civic possessions has also been found, the town's thousand-pound meteorite was located near the local museum, next to the world's largest hand-dug well.

my wife is skeered krazy about tornadoes - did a tour of duty in Omaha - she worried me to death.

 

A friend of mine grew up in that town and thankfully his family was able to get out in time and they are safe. Their houses are completely destroyed though. Sounds like there isn't much left of that town

Good to hear that! There have been tornado's for the past 4 or 5 days around here..one of the missed a family friends house by a mile two days ago...I guess thats how it goes in tornado alley

 

The results of the storm is a miracle. 1600 people in the town. 700 structures destroyed, only 3 remained somewhat intact. The sirens went off with 15-20 minutes of warning. The weather service said it was easier to predict because it was so large (1.5 miles wide).
