I was in Anchorage during the Summer Solstice, definitely takes some getting used to when you can see the sun ALL DAY long. But I think I can handle that better than I could handle "all day night". Although that would mean I could watch sunrises and sunsets every day without having to get up too early.

Yea the summers are defiantly worth it, and it can get downright hot even into the high 80's. We have a thinner atmosphere here at the higher lats, which makes for a more intense sun. Even people visiting from Texas remark how hot it is, and since it don't set in mid summer, it can be pretty relentless.

yea you can walk out in it, just have to dress rights

You need to start a poll to see if everyone down in the lower 48 can guess just how cold your CTD will still start...Unassisted...

Good lord man I hope your kidding about downright hot at 80! Here in OK it gets to 110 sometimes + the humidity.

On another note It gets dark here around 5:30 pm, and with that much darkness. I get depressed. I'd be in the nut house if it was dark for as long as it is dark in Alaska. Got to have my sunshine.

High 80'-90's in the shade I should say...now in direct sun it will bake you....straight up burn you if your not carefull...and with really dry air you can get dehydrated fast...but at least the skeeters aren't out...

It starts to get light(and that means no longer need headlight) around 11 in the am., and is dark by 3:30...thats why most of us have flowers and grow lights in our windows...

OPPS! I always get the two mixed up. Good thing I'm not creating the universe.

The lowest recorded temp ever was -129F in Antarctica. Lowest recorded temp for North America was -81F in Snag, Yukon. Lowest temp in United States was at Northway, Alaska -80F. I was bored and did a search.

Not taking away anything from Northway, cause that is a cold edit place...
These are only recorded temps, trust me there are far colder spots sometimes...depends on the weather and the wind...Heat rises and there are low lying valleys and river beds that the cold settles in...you can be running along on a ridge at 20-30 below, and drop down in a valley and the temps can drop drastically...have seen temp changes of 40 to 50 degrees in a 200 foot drop...and that can scare the heck out of you, your fuel will start freezing in the carbs, and if it freezes, you have a good chance of being next...

I always love the passing of the shortest day. Now on to the future. The days will begin to lengthen. Summer may finally arrive. New beginnings, plans, awakening, fun.

I don't know how you guys up in Alaska manage it in the winter. You know, it's not too far to Kona from there. 80 degree sea water, amazing beauty, tan and smiling girls.

Oh, don't listen to me.

Happy Winter Solstice

Well It's that time of year again, the shortest day of the year. To think the sun will be up "here" in only 30 days...Course I'm cheating by going to Idaho this year. Its about -10F should warm up to around zero today.
