Windmill Energy

I know this was talked about awhile ago, but I'm finally getting around to posting some pictures! There are some links to better photos too. Huge windmill project going up just south of my house, and I still haven't decided if I like it or not! LOL I guess if not, I'll have to get used to it because it just looks like more and more are coming!

Here's a pic with my truck in it for comparison! The blades are HUGE! They are around 140 feet long, and the hub height is about 250 feet high!

Hope that they check those out good before they assemble them. My dad was just telling me of a wind farm not to far from his place in SW Minnesota where they put up 20 windmills and now find out that 19 of them have defective gearboxes. They're pulling all the blades back off and taking them back down for repairs before they ever started producing. That'll hurt the bottom line.

Heard about the same situation in New York. Whole bunch of them haven't been running for several months now. I believe these are different though. It sure has changed the view around here!

where was that at? I have been seeing a couple new ones going up along 35, both on the iowa side, and the MN side. seems like a lot of people are getting into this.

Talked to one of the operators working on the project a little bit ago. He says within the next 8 years there will be over 1000 of them stretching from one side of the state to the other! They are suprisingly quiet too. Less than a slight whisper of a swoosh as the blades go by the base. Thats it!

There's thousands of them in between Lubbock and Abilene Texas.
The vast majority of them are spinning every time I drive through there.
I hope it's cost effective and not just wind energy for the sake of doing it.

At least over here it's quite profitable if you put them where enough wind is- an interesting factor is that wind energy is pushing a lot of the efforts to store the energy, or to sell electricity that will only be on when there is wind- eg for heating since it's simple to store heat. I think there will be a lot of stuff coming towards us that will change the way we see energy.
