why

Why does dodge seem to do more manual transfer cases then auto? and why does for still do manual locking hubs? Just doesn't seem right. Thanks much.

Maybe it's just me, but I actually prefer a manual transfer case and manual locking hubs. I guess when it's manual I'm more "convinced" that it's actually working.

Seems like Dodge owners are just a bit different from Ford and Chevy. Both have gone away from manual transfers and trannies. But dodge sticks with it. I've never had a manual t-case. Had a ton of trouble with the auto t-case in my old ranger and not problems yet in my 05 silverado 1/2 ton, but it's an 05 sooo there better not be any Edit problems yet.

I don't so much mind the auto hubs but I definately don't want an automatic t-case. I love feeling the clunk as the shifter gets pulled back. Let's me know that it's engaged.

When I bought my first Powerstroke in 2003...I ordered it to come with a manual T-case and manual hubs. When it comes to certain things, I just prefer manual over electronic. I however never used them, but it was still a nice feeling to have.

I'm with you feller's. Manual hubs, t-case, trans....Our exploder has the automatic junk on it, bought used and worked well for the first year. Then when put into 4 high, I'm mean switched into 4 high it would engage momentarily then start flashing a code at me. Had it to furd dealer 3 times and paid $60 a pop and was told each time, "no problem". All that garbage is computer controlled, this idiot box sends a signal to this idiot box which sends a signal to something else which will then trigger the wiper motor on your t-case to engage.....to many variables when your stuck in snow or mud, so much simpler to just reach down, pull back the handle and "BAM" your in 4 wheel drive. They seem to over complicate everything today, lazy society I guess. To hard to pull the lever back or not "fancy" or sophisticated enough. Just my humble opinion......

The auto hub axles are weaker and tend to break under heavy loads and or abuse.
I'll take the unbrakable manual stuff any day. I just leave my hubs locked in the winter!

Manual all the way. Then you know when it is engaged AND you could diagnose problems better. No idiot box or anything like that. Also, Dodge is still offering the manual trannies while Chevy is not and Ford seems to be going that way.

My firend has a 99 Chevy Blazer. Cant use 4wheel anything. Just keeps the suv in first. talk about poor gas mileage with 4 wheel drive!

Just wanted to add that I prefer manual stuff all the way.
The more simplier something is, the less likely it is to break.
Also, anything electronic always manages to break eventually on a vehicle.

I want to ask, is there a reason you can't get a manual Tcase shifter in the Mega cabs? I started looking on the site and saw the Elec. shifter was std. Must be a man-van thing I guess.

Thats my .02

The air ducts to the rear seats run where a stick would have to go, so no manual shift transfer case. Trust me, I tried.
