I was given a Kimber TLE II .45 as a "end of tour" gift from a security detail I was on. Ill tell you what, its the best pistol Ive ever fired. They are very expensive off the shelf, so im glad that i didnt have to pay for it

Doesn't the kimber use an 80 series trigger action while springfield uses the 70 series like most everyone else? Not to say one's better than the other but some people complain about it. I looked at the custom stainless II and by the time I modified it to my liking I would have lost warranty and would have spent more on it.

Do your research on that message board that I posted earlier... Spend a day or two in your free time searching and asking questions.

I bought the Dan Wesson over the Springfield because they were similar in price and the Wesson had a lot more aftermarket on it like a true actual custom... Wolff, STI etc... can't remember all the custom parts off the top of my head. They were also bought by CZ so they'll come with a warranty.

No trying to persuade you or anything, just saying research that 1911 site.

I have SS 1911 Colt MK80 that used to belong to a gunsmith and it's had the works done to it. Then I shot my nephews Ruger 45 ACP and I liked it as much as my Colt and I think they are lower $$$. Craig

I've always heard that colts need a lot of work to get them to be good comfortable shooter. I've shot one that a guy had $2,200 in so I can't speak for out of box guns.

But then again you can't go wrong with the original .

I want the remake of the WWI colt 1911, that is a sweet piece to own. They are close to $900 if you can get them anymore though... And they aren't great shooters, probably a little loose but loose means reliable IMO.

Granted, not a 1911, but ...

Dad owns a gun store and I chose a XD40 over all mentioned above except the Dan Wesson and RIA as I believe he does not carry these. Love the Kimber's, don't get me wrong, but nothing comes close to an XD as far as carrying, shooting, VALUE, warranty, and how well it comes up and fits in your hand. I have the 4" barrel and wouldn't take $600 for it.

(unless or course I were gonna use it towards another on).

I love the .45's but for carry, they seem just a hair bulky. I only played with a 5" .45 so that may have been the reasoning. The 9mm's are a nice carry weapon if you're in to the "spray and pray" caliber.

Just my .02.

I prefer Kimbers and pre-'80s Colts.

RIA's are very good, fairly inexpensive and accurate. Got about $500 in this one with Hoague grips and all.

my dad was a marine for 3 years and he spent alot of time shooting the 1911 colt and refuses to get any other gun but a "goverment model" 45. he dosent like the XD cause it dosent fit his hand right, he used to have his FFL 3, he said the same thing as stated above, loose is reliable, drop them in the water, mud, sand, it didnt matter, just pick it up and pull the trigger. which is great when someone is trying to kill you.
