Re:Water Cooler Thread - Jan 27th thru Feb 2nd
Morning folks!!!!!!!
I am much less wound up than yesterday. Wish I could have video taped the meetings. I didn't raise my voice, beat the table, jump up and down, or even show my back side. My blood pressure didn't even rise more than 5 points.
Walked into the first meeting with large briefcase in hand, proceeded to lay the regs out on the table and walked them through the entire process. I backed the regs up with copies of the "past practices" and bluntly informed them that if the situation continued, they would have a large number of weapons systems that would be considered as Not Mission Capable, within the next 90 days. I presented options and numbers reflecting projected man hours, required man hours and actual man hours. Something anyone with a $2.00 calculator could understand. Asked why the readiness reports did not reflect any problems, I replied that that was something that was handled at the battalion level and higher and was not a concern of this activity. I then presented them with a printout of all maintenance events performed,by this shop, over the past two years so that they could compare what was actually done to what was reported to have been done. Putting it mildly, a number of people could not answer a large number of questions.
In short, I've got to present a brief to the command group so that they can request additional funding to fill positions in my shop. I may not get everything I want/need, but I can work with 50% of it. I just didn't tell them that.
I got my competitive events funding back. A number of officer type boondoggle trips and courses were cancelled. Not everyone was happy, especially when orders for a couple of
0-6's were cancelled. Those orders were to attend the Shot Show in Orlando, Florida. $7,000 to send two individuals there to decide what I need to improve marksmanship. They haven't even qualified with their weapon in four years and wouldn't know a 7.62 round from a 5.56 round. I get to go instead. ;D ;D
It got ugly at times, my parentage was questioned, my political motivation was questioned along with my career ambitions. I never even got mad because I had my ducks in a row and knew what to expect.
I love it when a plan goes through. We, the pure of heart, shall prevail.
It does feel good when people break it off in themselves and step on their own crank. They didn't even need my help.
It'd gonna be a great day.
[/quote]

ooooo, that hurts. Don't you remember me telling you? I wanted to get together, but there is no way I could have found the time on this trip. I'll probably stay a couple extra days next time.

Good afternoon/almost evening folks,
As Mr. Rogers sings, " It's a wonderful day in a uniform, 'cause I'm short time"
So much for my humor. OBTW, Mr. Rogers was a sniper in Vietnam.
I'm really enjoying my evening. Got a cool, refreshing, adult beverage that's evaporating really fast. Got a big ole pot of bratwurst and beer cooking. And the wife ain't ****** at me, yet.
Gonna run off and finish up supper and then get back in here.
I can't believe that the Navy actually has non nuc chiefs that are still wearing three cornered britches. What is this world turning into. Talked to PistolWhipt today and I don't think he's reached puberty yet.
I'm beginning to feel kinda like an old warhorse that needs to retire, or at least be put out to pasture to play with the mares.

shortround off the air
