Vandalized! Need Advice
Did the cops take the dealer plate? If you still have it, I suggest taking it to the dealership where he works and explain (show) to the general manager what happened. As a minimum, he should loose his job. Who knows, the dealer may fix your truck and take it out of the ex's paycheck. It is not using the legal system but hitting him in the pocket book should be a significant event in his life. Lost job paying for repair or both. Most dealers know who is driving what and when. If by some chance that it wasn't the ex, the dealership should know who it was.
How does SHE feel about carrying a concealed weapon and training on how to use it? Cause the fight is actually hers not yours. No matter how much property damage done to you in secret until you catch him or he and his friends accosts you, then you yourself should be ready. This guy can hide in a million different ways and sneak below everyone's radar cause he's consumed with what he's doing. Sane people have better things to do.
Don't rush to get a restraining order until she is trained on carrying a concealed weapon, then get the restraining order. Soon after the restraining order, he'll begin violating it to prove to her the order means nothing.
It sounds like you're in for the long haul. Be prepared for anything.

You and your girlfriend need to be able and ready to take care of yourselves. In my experiance, the police will not intervine untill a crime has been committed and I'd rather the other guy be on the ground hurt and bleeding .
If the dealer's plate was ripped off the front of the vehicle, perhaps there's also damage, dirt whatever under the front of that vehicle.
I'm not CSI, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time
As for all the "Keyboard Courage" posts about exacting revenge......

Was the dealer plate one of those magnetic attached types that they can stick to the trunk ??? They usually use the same ones and can switch them from vehicle to vehicle. The dealership would probably not know or say if they authorized a vehicle to go on a drive around / test drive. Really doubtful that they would offer to pay for your damages as they weren't even remotely responsible. If they found out that it was one of their guys and could prove it ... they might go ahead and fire the guy. That would really spin him up.
My suggestion to you is motion activated surveillance cameras hidden on various parts of your property. Many that you can buy do not require running wires and can hook up to an extended play VCR. This will allow for several hours of continuous surveillance. I suggested motion activated due to using batteries for the camera. Video tape is admissible in court if it came to that.
OR... Signs around the property saying that the area is under video surveillance and maybe a mock camera or two out in open view might be enough deterrence to make him think twice about coming around again.
I will be installing some actual cameras around my property mainly for my wifes piece of mind and so I can catch the fool that liberated some of my firewood last year ... he'll be back, I'm sure and Momma knows how to fix a thief !!

As for the damage to your truck, comprehensive insurance will fix that and all you are out is the deductible. Find a dealer that does good work, and you will be fine. Best to let it be known that damage to a tangible item does not bother you that much, at least in public. This should deter him from doing it again.
As far as personal safety is concerned, I would watch your back, he is the kind of sneaky bugger who would bring 5-6 buddies to work you over. If you see him in public, either be prepared for a fight or look at him and laugh, that will do more than scare tactics. Best thing to do is find him by himself and let him know you know it was him, and find out who his parents are. If anything else happens his parents will pay for it, either with money or broken bones, his choice.

I'd be inclined to take a trip to the particular dealer in your vandalized truck and very politely talk to the manager/owner of the dealership.
Explain to him someone saw the person driving one of his dealer plated cars do the damage and you would like his help in identifying the new owners of a (insert car) purchased from his dealership in the last month. He may or may not help you but the nicer you are the better your chances.
Do not mention that you know anyone at the dealership!
You have to be calm, cool as a cucumber, and very polite to be able to pull this off.
Remember, just your presence on the lot will show this guy that you know where he lives
and drain the blood from his face. No
confrontation by you at all!!!

I don't have much time to reply today, but I want to thank everyone for the replies.
One thing I will say today is that going to the dealership or his parents won't work. They are all in cahoots. He has beaten my girlfriend in front of his family before and his brother does the same thing.
As for going to the dealership... its a dealership composed of all his best buddies. Small used car lot. If anything, going in there will get me laid out.
I might call them from a restricted number just to see what they have to say... but I wont hold my breath.
I do believe I am going to go through with a small claims court case. I have enough evidence and plenty of supporting witnesses (not to the actual crime, but the aftermath) to convince a judge.

If you don't have one already, I'd get a nice big 12 guage, a sign that says: "Tresspassers will be shot.....survivers will be shot again." I'd call him up, let him know how nice it feels when your girl wraps her arms around you and how sweet her lips are. I'd let both the girl and the ex know that he'll never touch her again. I'd get a restraining order on him. then I'd 'light a fire' under his "rear," sit by the window and wait for him to read the sign.
But in all honesty, I'd just let him know you're gonna stop taking his $#!% and you'll protect your property (girl, home, truck, friends, family, etc.)
Best of luck!

I hope you at least contacted the owner of that plate you found and told him what kind of employee is working for him. I'd bet that taking a company car 300 miles round trip isn't in the benefits package.
