Towing with Durango ?

We are getting ready to go camping/fishing the wk of 3/26. Durango came without trailer tow pack. Dealer installed a receiver hitch. I've got to install wiring for lights. I think it has 3:55 gears with the 4.7 v8 so it would be rated @ 5700#. Boat weighs about 2500#. Should I install a aux trans cooler or anything else for that matter? Wife will be driving. Thanks

I had a 2004 with the Hemi. Towed 2500lbs like it wasn't even there. Fuel mileage stayed reasonable to.

I had a 5.2L Durango for 5 years before trading it on the Ram. Tranny cooler is a good thing to add, I used a B&M super cooler, attached it in the lower valance right below the bumper for good air flow. The B&M kit includes all the barb fittings, clamps, etc.

Use Tow/Haul or O/D button as necessary (like hills and cities) to keep the tranny from shifting too much.

Other than that - expect not so good mileage but you should be ok. I towed about 3k lbs with a double axle horse trailer and was getting between 8-10 mpg.

Thanks for the replys. Most of our trips are to a lake about 60 mi away and half of it interstate. As soon as I get lights wired up we are gonna do some towing lessons, and work on when to use OD and not. Got to buy new tires for the boat trailer too. Will probably try it this trip as I may not have time to do the cooler before then. Will see how it does. Is the cooler/hitch/heavy duty flasher all there is to the tow package on these?

My wife had a '00 Durango with the 318 in it and we pulled a 19' camper with no problems. Hit some hills around Albert Pike but it didn't seem to mind...I think you will be ok.
