There's something you don't see every day
Moose are common in Alaska. So common in fact they roam freely around in Alaska's largest city, Anchorage. Out here in the rurales it's even more common. Being close to the river, I see them almost daily in my yard. Cow mooses, or is that mice, with or without babies mainly. Bull moose are a rarer sight. We had a cow with twins that frequented the area. Mama got hit by a truck about a month ago leaving her kids orphaned. We were hopping another cow would adopt them, but that didn't seem to be happening. This morning, we saw something very unusual, or two youngsters found a guardian. A young bull moose, still bigger than a horse, has adopted them. Normally a bull will have nothing to do with other moose, especially babies except in the rut. Yet they appear to be acting as a family unit, the bull taking on the role of the cow.
