TeleNav GPS
TeleNav GPS
Anyone using TeleNav? If so, post your experiences good or bad. Just trying to figure out if it's as good as it says it is.

Don't know if it was telnave that was in a rental car once, but it worked on our cell phone. It was mostly in a metro area, Phoenex/ Tucson.
Make sure it will have coverage in the area you will be travling. I think GPS is great.

On average about $10 a month plus you need the data plan on a lot of carriers. Seems steep to me. You might also need a bluetooth GPS receiver.
There are better solutions I think. I use my Smartphone with Mapopolis and a BT GPS receiver. Garmin looks like it is getting ready to release Garmin Mobile XT. When that comes out I will probably get it (if it works with non-Garmin BT receivers).

I use TeleNav on my Nextel phone. With as much traveling as I do, I'd be lost without it. Well worth it if you dont want to come up with the money for a fancy electronic anti-gettin-lost device. It goes where ever I do...why install one in what you drive? I can plan my route on my pc or do it via voice on my phone. Also, it works great when you need to find a business, fast food, or just about anything while you are away from home. You need to have your phone pluged into the car charger while using TeleNav. The suction cup window mounting thingy is a must! But me being the cheap@$$ that I am, I made my own

Rob, which Smartphone are you running? And how many maps can your phone hold? I used Charlies phone in Houston and it worked well, just wanted to make sure I could hold enough maps to cover any area I was in without having to consistently upload/download.
I'm basically looking for a GPS solution that I can use in the truck and take with me when I travel (rent car). I'd thought about using a BT receiver with the laptop, but it's just too bulky and believe it or not, my laptop doesn't go EVERYWHERE with me.

Justin,
I am running an Audiovox SMT-5600. I have a 1G miniSD card in it that would hold most of the US on it if I loaded it. If I were getting a new Smartphone, I would look at the i607, the Cingular 3125 or the new version of the 8125 (it is an 8xxx something). I wouldn't go back to a non-Smartphone. Mapopolis is good, but I am really hoping that the Garmin Mobile XT is great (I am used to Garmin maps and S/W from my other GPS units).
I used to take my handheld GPSMAP60Cs with me everywhere, but now I just slip my BT receiver in my pocket and I already always carry my phone.
