Dustin,
Good luck, sounds like you are hooked on quack.
I've got an 1187 SP Super Mag (3.5") with a 26" barrel. I don't duck hunt, but have used it for dove season and skeet/trap and sporting clays. You have use the heavy game loads to get it to cycle. Not a problem with your duck rounds, but if you practice with it somewhere and don't want to use the expensive duck loads for practice, you will want to use the heavy game loads.

I come from an "eat what you kill" hunting background. That's why I never hunt duck. I would rather eat sagebrush soaked in bacon grease.

Good luck just the same.

I've never tried hunting or eating duck. I'd like to sometime. Even though I doubt I can hit anything with my benelli m1 super 90 tactical 18.5" barrel. But it would be fun wasteing alot of ammo!

The best way to cook/eat duck, is to place a duck on a board, and cook at high heat for 30 minutes. Then throw the duck in the trash, and eat the board.

Oh yeah, I’ve been waiting for Waterfowl season since January. I’ve been driving my wife crazy practicing my duck and goose calling once again. I hunt with a group of buddies, and we have a cabin up in Bridgeport, Nebraska with a bout ¾ of a mile of Platte river front access. The first hunt is on the 10th of Oct., I can’t wait. Then we have a weeklong hunt, where a bunch of our long time friends come from all over the country and even Hawaii to hunt. That is the best week of hunting. Duck and Goose can taste very good if cooked just right. I have to agree the first time I cooked my own duck it was awful, and even the Dog didn’t care for it too much. I then had a friend that is an Executive Chef show me how to cook Ducks and Geese and man what a difference, it can taste awesome. We also donate a lot of our kills to several homeless shelters, and have received great appreciation from those organizations for that. Last year I think we donated about 350 to 400 ducks. Oh, Goose Jerky is very tasty!!!!! The Camo Benelli Super Black Eagle is cleaned and ready to go. I’m gonna try Hevi-Shot this year, Tungsten worked well last year just got kinda expensive.

Quack Quack…..Booom,
Kyle

Hey Lsufan78 put up the money for a Benelli....leave the Remington at the store you'll love it the high toned gun, I promise.

Ya East Texas the past few years has been terrible. What the heck happened? Shoot a few years ago we had Pintails, Mallards, and Teal all over the place...I think they all decided to stay north?

You bet!
As long as I can come hunt some Woodys down there!

I just hope the Pot Hole region gets cold and freezes early this year.

Amen on the Benelli! Heck a few years a go I stumbled in the river that was a slushy ice flow and by the time I got back to the blind in the wind chill the gun froze up. I held it over a Propane heater for a few minutes to thaw, and it worked flawlessly the rest of the morning. It received a very good cleaning during lunch though.

That past few years have not be that great up north either. We are used to seeing the skies black with ducks, but it has remained warm latter into the winter and the freeze up north has seemed latter, as well. We did not see the Canada’s until mid December last year. East Texas should be on the same flyway as what we hunt on. A quick freeze in Canada and a moderate freeze progression southward would allow the waterfowl a comfortable migration southward. The Teal were pretty good last weekend. I think my buddies shot 15 or 20. I’m transporting our new Titanic Blind out there next weekend. The blind is 18’ long with a cooking stove and individual heaters, with a built in Ice chest for the Adult beverages. I have to add in the humidor, though.
