CN- don't want to be towed? drive something bigger than the tow truck....
GLASGOW, Scotland — Wealthy businessman Alan Love has an illegal-parking habit that has cost him thousands in fines on his Rolls-Royce Phantom. Now he's hit on a way to keep his vehicle from being towed away: He is buying a Dodge Ram pickup that the local tow trucks can't budge.
Scotland's Herald newspaper calls Alan Love The Phantom Parker of Old Glasgow Town, noting that his Rolls has been parked illegally near his downtown offices on a regular basis. Residents also report having seen him park a Ferrari and a Bentley in no-parking zones as well, although Love claims it's the oversize Rolls that makes him do it — it won't fit well into standard parking spaces, he claims. The Ram is likely to have the same problem, but that seems to fit into Love's plan.
Ticket costs have reached levels of $300 per week, but Love was quoted as saying, "I don't mind paying the fines," and commenting that he feels he is "doing the council a favour" by adding to the municipal coffers.
In this cat-and-mouse game, the mouse seems to be winning: Alan Love is paying up, and the Glasgow City Council's tow vehicles haven't been up to the task of towing. The inevitable has followed: the Council is reportedly getting two heavier-duty tow vehicles. A spokesperson quoted by Reuters said, "This individual is not exempt and we will not be deterred."
What this means to you: Can't help wondering whether the new tow trucks have "Acme" written on them. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent

That reminds me of a friend of mine when he went to college, he would park in one of the reserved spots for a dean and was told not to park there or they would tow his truck 92, F250, 460, etc.... Well, it wound up getting towed and when he went to get his truck the towing outfit wanted to charge him for the 2 chains they broke, his comments to which were "not my fault you buy junk chains", paid his towing charge and took his truck.
