Solar panel and wind power info needed

The man cave goes up in a couple of weeks. I am in need of knowledge about panels and how many to charge up a bank of batteries to run lights etc in the garage and the house.

In addition to that I want to put wind power in place. I am expecting to have to build a separate building for the batteries.

Any help and/or feedback is needed and welcome.

Thanks.

I've seen solar and wind generators @ Northern Tool.
Don't know how good they are.

You planning to visit and charge your scooter? Cool. I will be ready.

I hugged a tree with a 68 Impala one time. Pruned 8 trees with a 62 Pontiac.

On my way to vote today, I saw a house with 9 large solar panels and a spiral windmill. I am going to take my daughter to the park adjacent to this place and may ask the owners about their set up. It looked well organized.

Wink

wow. for your area, might be costly.

1200 sq ft home should have about 700 kw hours per month from solar/wind combine battery series. figure (8) 145 watt panels with auto adjust rotation feeding six series gel packs, two lead acids as returns or flow batteries.
get the computer upgrade so you can see from a home computer all the feeds, inputs and battery levels for all systems and set limits.
the wind turbine transmitter package for cross feeds between your grid and the input for the solar contoller to your home.

14,000US for the wind set up
7,500US for the solar passive system, roof based with grid tie in.

note that this is just money spent, no investment as the material wears out before a pay back can be realized. most systems are 7 year lifed. lower if going off grid but with big lifestyle changes.

I truly hope you get a better system with what the neighbor has set up.

we saw a vertical shaft turbine that was awesome and long lifed, but the maker just kind of fell off the map. hope big oil didn't get him...hehehe

all federal energy rebates/incentives stopped here. big order of 200 ft wind turbines that sat here just got dispersed to scrap or existing wind farms out West. wished i could have picked one up for ya, got seven tractor trailers needed for transport? you'd have been real popular in your neighborhood with a few terrawatts to spare....

I'm in the learning phase right now. My thoughts are that if I can supplement my power, not replace it, I could have some fun with the electric company just like I have with the gas company. The gas company called here twice over the winter questioning our low consumption of natural gas. We did not go over 50.00 a month with this being one of our coldest winters in a very long time.
Prior to the renovations I was closing in on 200.00/month.

Our investment over the past few yrs was right at the 20K mark and we received government rebates of 11K.

One of the guys at work is building some kind of a heat exchanger for the shop.
Its compiled from beer cans and pop cans. Solar is powering the small fans that move heat into the building. Roof mounted.

My scooter is a 3 cyl Kubota. Sometimes Chris gets mixed up. Its his scooter that runs on batteries. I tried telling him he is going to need more then 24 9-volts to move his carcass around.

I will stop by the house I saw with the panels and perhaps find that the cost outweighs the benefits.

PLEASE don't just mess with the electric company. Do a proper install and let them know. You WILL kill a lineman if you're energizing the lines and he's up there working and thinking its dead. No, he'll be dead.

Here is a tidbit of info about windmills, whatever amount they "claim" to put out, divide it in half, that will be your real world output. That and all the ones around here seem to be broken, In the last year, the one windmill in this subdivision has run 18 days.

I know better then that. In my post I mentioned how the gas company was calling because we where not using much gas. My goal is to have the electric company calling asking why we are not using much for electricity too. This had nothing to do with their grid or their actual supply.

That does remind me of a story about a guy in town here that decided he was going to steal cable from the same pole as the power. He did not live.

I would not even consider tying into the main grid here in the city.

Thanks for the heads up just the same.

for one property we have on the St Lawrence river Canada/US Montreal/Quebec area, we tried a small marine hydro system that worked excellent! but you have to use the grid. told electric company that we had to hook up but cost for electric actual usage would be low. being honest. can't get electric service despite putting in my own poles, lines, box up to the weatherhead. they say it's not worth their time. ouch.

maybe with all your flooding.....nah! rather you have dry grass and fun times with your family..... good thoughts sent to ya, wish someone had a yard sale for that stuff..

interesting though- hope you find something that works for you. I love the technology...watching a UV hybrid line that Kodak (the camera people) is making for the gubbermint....amazing stuff folks think of.
