Second Jobs....

So it's that time of year again. The ol' car repair business gets slow this time of year, paychecks shrink, mac and cheese is Thanksgiving dinner with some turkey loaf from my grociers freezer. Last year I worked at Toys R Us building bicycles/ battery powered cars, etc for the shoppers. This also the busiest time of year for me, hauling scrap metal, fixing cars/tractors on the side at home, raising the goats, and now back to being Santa's helper at the toy store is added to my list.

So who among us must bite the bullet and get that second job? Not the easiest thing in the world to do.....but I am actually looking forward to going to work someplace where I punch a time clock and actually get paid for being there, I know what a crazy concept.

The thing with pool cleaning is that the hours are as much as you want, whenever you want...

Heh, i hear ya on that

ive had a second, third and fourth job, pretty much anything that can get me extra cash for the longest time... on weekends and what not i do just about anything from ranch and cattle work to hauling stuff, or even simple mechanic jobs for cash... used to clean stalls too from 10-22 years old.. So now we will see what i have to do to keep cash in my pocket with my new job...

I recently applied to work at the bowling center here on base. Hope I get it. If I do then that income will be primarily for the truck BOMBs fund.

I got a second job at Advance Auto about a month ago. Between the extra money, and a 20% discount on parts, it sure helps. Shocks, brakes, batteries, all fluids, filters, headlight bulbs and a couple other odds and ends have been replaced with the extra cash. That is something I would have had to do over a whole year if I didn't have a second job. Now the real bombing can begin

15 hours of classes, appox 40 hrs/week first job, and another 10-15 hrs on a second job. It's no wonder many of my friends wonder why I don't come around very often.

In about another month, I'll be done training horses for the year. I've got the last few that are scheduled in now, and after they go home, that will be it, unless I get any more calls, and that probably wont happen this late in the year.
For some reason, folks dont think to send their horse to the trainer in the "off" season, they wait untill a month before that big ride they want to take or late spring, and then remember that their horse bucks every time its saddled, or wont load in a trailer with out flipping over backwards....... At any rate, when that happens, I find a second part time gig, ussually one of the local inconvience stores or such. Helps pay for the hay and farrier bills and goes into the X-Mas fund.....

we don't have a slow season anymore for aircraft maintenance on the crop dusters. their busy season we try to keep up with the little wear items and emergencies; their slow season we're thrashing on pulling engines, wings, hoppers and otherr major stuff.
but for side jobs I build engines, custom old cars and trucks or tow stuff for people. that or I help my dad work on his trucks.

I work full time as a Chooch Monkey (Locomotive Mechanic), and for a 22 yr old kid i'm pretty comfortable with money but i still do side work as a secondary income. I work on other peoples trucks, semis, tractors and cars when i have the spare time. I also detail vehicles. I use alot of this money for buying my truck stuff and more tools.

I guess I've always had a second job. I worked in a cabinet shop for years, so I've always picked up little side jobs building custom items for folks. Even done some small home remodel projects. Right now, I'm working with a buddy who also does upholstrey as a side job. He's the only one around here that will go on site to redo church pews. He's been running into a bunch that need repairs, so I take them apart, give him the seat, he does his thing, I fix up the rest, when he's done I put it all back together. We're going to start a McDonalds soon, repairing/replacing a bunch of benches, then we're going to do 250 chairs for a hotel. He's going to redo the covers, and I'm gonna refinish them.

Hey, if I can pop $250 a weekend or more, thats a grand or more a month that'll go a long long way.

WooHoo! I got the Job! I really look forward to working there, and even more so when I can buy more toys for the truck.
