This is totally unacceptable.

If a civilian wants to flit around as a P.X. Ranger with fake medals, so be it. If he gains services because of it, should still be some protection under fraud laws I would think. Now if an active soldier put on medals he didn't earn, there's still the UCMJ.

I think that's a load of crap. How about if I get a fake medical license and dispense drugs with it?

I am proud of the awards I have earned, but I am proud to myself, I don't flaunt it. I rarely ever mention my service to get favors.. I think the only time I do is at Lowe's, where they offer a discount for us.

If I see someone that is making a big deal about being in the military and throwing his medals around, I'm suspicious.

Fraud is fraud and there should be consequences.

Well, apart from the ethic consequences (pretending to have done something that one did not do) how about civil lawsuits- like a company offers a special rebate for former (or active)members of the armed forces- and gives such an individual said rebate due to the false claim of being a participant in operation XXX ?
This company is suffering a direct financial loss due to the false claim of said idividual. Can they sue with a chance of success?

Just pondering and hijacking a thread

Sooooo ... if it's ok to pretend you are something that you are not and to claim awards that you didn't earn .... then I am putting on the black robe and am now a federal judge .... and I OVER-RULE THIS STUPID DECISION !!!

What's good for the goose ... is good for the quack that ruled it ok !!

Cheers,
PISTOL

Great minds think alike. I was going to say the same thing. I should get a robe so I can park in the reserved spots at the courthouse and get a few of the other perks.

Bet I would get in trouble if I put on a robe and walked around a courtroom saying I was a judge.

2171CTD: I dont know. By what they said (" agreeing that the law was a violation of his free-speech rights. The majority said there's no evidence that such lies harm anybody, and there's no compelling reason for the government to ban such lies".) you should be able to march around their courthouse saying you are a judge as long as you dont make any rulings that harm anybody.

That ruling is such complete BS. That is a slap in the face of any member of the military that received the Medal of Honor or any other Medal. I never served in combat but I am proud of the few Medals I have. Keith
