Rope question

Are there any rope experts here? I was just given about 100' of rope from my brother in law that was used at major casino in Las Vegas for "rigging" in a theater what ever that means. This rope is thicker than a nickel but smaller than a quarter in size and has a light green thread/ribbon going through it. I'm just curious on the test weight of this rope. No tug o war's in mind but maybe some stuck car pulling if looped. $$ is good in this town if you can tug a car from the snow before the tow get's there. I have a 20k strap I've used in the past but on smaller cars it's hard to get it attached.

Just curious.

Thanks
Bill.

If you could, post a picture of the rope that shows the texture. If it is anything like climbing rope you can pull a car with a single strand but you will want to tripple or quadruple loop it if the car is stuck.

I work with synthic cables. Tensile strength depends on diameter, material, and structure. It could be anywhere from 100 to 50k work load. Just double or triple it to be safe. Remember that one loop is double the strength.

Looks like it has Kevlar or most likely Polyolefin fiber filament running thru the core (gold-ish thread). Lemme see...a US nickel is about .835 diameter, so most likely your rope is 3/4". I'll give a guess and say it has an average strength of around 11,000 lbs. JUST A GUESS!!! Just don't go hangin' your '02 from a tree or anything like that.

That's what I was looking for, but I thought rope had a chart or something you could get an answer with the stripe in it.

Nope won't be hanging the '02 this week maybe next

Yeah the gold may be kevlar. The material could be nylon or even Spectra. We reference the green line for counting the twists per foot.

Looks like a 3 strand Samson Braid Line.

Line

Some manufactures will use a different identifying color fleck.
