Yeah, I could do that. But, you know my patience level... by the time I got that old POS tractor running, and staying running, I'd be so ticked off that I'd go and buy the biggest, most expensive generator in K'zoo. Then I'd b e in BIG trouble!

How long do you need to provide power?
A couple fork lift batteries will give you 24 or 48 volts and 1000 amp hours each.
more of an upfront cost, but it would atleast take some of the load off the generator.

For the cost of a the battery, he could buy a decent gen set.

Now that must be one pricey battery.

yea, I know, but thats about the only way he is going to have the power available.
either that or seriously look at cutting the load.

Last outage was short, only 44 hours. We typically see a week at a time.

Get yourself a MEP-003 military genset, it will run your shop and office all day long until you run out of fuel.

10Kw single & 3 Phase 100% duty cycle powered by a Onan DJC 1800 RPM 4-cylinder air cooled diesel.

This is not mine, I sold mine several years ago.

I'd get one of those in a heartbeat if I could find one fairly close-by and for a reasonable price.

Looking upwards to $6,500 for a electric forklift battery and can weigh up to 5,000 lbs

But it is STILL a lead acid battery... They have a finite life, lots of maintenance, and not all that efficient..

2 1/2 tons... Still not near big enough to carry 12kw load for 44+ hrs!!!

I too vote for taking the $$ for a L-A forklift batt and put it on a diesel genset...

Or, how about finding yourself an old 1st gen 5.9, put on a different governor and belt drive your little 12kva alternator with the old cummins loafing along at ~1200rpm?
Overkill? yep!
So WHEN you find a ~40kva+ alternator, you already have the right sized engine for 1800rpm.

Then you can answer the phone: "Chaikwa Power & Light"?

44 plus hours. you might wanna look at a dual fuel system and either look at cutting your load to 7kW.
or look at a 20 HP engine.

I LIKE your way of thinking!

Actually, what I want to do is find a 40kva gen-set and then I could power the whole farm instead of just one building.

I dont think 200 amps is enough unless your welder is diesel powered.
btw, consider the fuel requirements to run 24/7

Watch what your bidding on and stay away from the machines that are rated at 400 HZ... Things might not last to long if you get the "Frequency" of my drift
