Vote fraud & crack: a case for Dick Tracy?
Tuesday, October 19, 2004
John P. Coyne
Plain Dealer Reporter

When Defiance County election officials got a batch of voter registration cards for Dick Tracy, Mary Poppins, Michael Jordan and George Foreman, they might have wondered whether the per son who gathered the cards was smoking crack.

Maybe not, but he was being paid for his trouble in crack cocaine, said Defiance County Sheriff David Westrick.

On Monday, sheriff's deputies arrested Chad Staton, 22, of Defiance, who admitted to investiga tors that he filled out about 130 registration cards, making up the names and addresses. He said he was hired by a Toledo woman to solicit voter registrations.

She gave him a choice of cash or drugs for his work, Westrick said. He chose crack cocaine.

Deputies from Defiance County in northwest Ohio and Toledo police searched the woman's Toledo house, confiscating drug paraphernalia and voter registration forms, Westrick said.

The occupant of the house, Georgianne Pitts, 41, told investigators that she was recruited for the voter registration drive by Thaddeus Jackson, Ohio director of the NAACP's National Voter Fund.

It was not the first time Jackson's name has come up in connection with election irregularities. Earlier this year, the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections questioned 17 registration cards that Jackson turned in because the signatures on all 17 cards appeared similar. He blamed the problem on subordinates.

In 1992, Jackson resigned as chairman of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections and later pleaded guilty to accepting improper compensation while board chairman. Jackson could not be reached for comment Monday.

Phony voter registration cards are a problem for election boards across Ohio and the country, as both Republicans and Democrats try to sign up new voters for this election.

Gwen Dillingham, deputy director of the Cuyahoga County elections board, said the 130 registration cards under investigation in Defiance County were dropped off at the Cuyahoga County board by one of 10 groups that have collected many of the 160,000 registration cards submitted this year.

"We get them for all different counties," Dillingham said. She said cards from people in other counties are sent to election officials in those counties.

Dillingham said some groups are paying people $1 to $2 for each registration card.

If Staton is found guilty of falsifying the cards, he could be sentenced to up to 12 months in jail and fined up to $2,500.

Laura Howell, deputy director of the Defiance County Board of Elections, said Staton may have been creative in filling out the cards, but he neglected one name.

"He is not registered to vote in Defiance County," she said.

Plain Dealer news researcher Cheryl Diamond contributed to this story.

And the Dead are registering to Vote Demoncrat in Colorado.. Talk about the Outlaw Party.

I agree that an informed voter is very important, but the purpose of my statement was an idictment of the "current" un-informed youth [the blame for which does NOT rest with this administration only].

HUH???

An OTH is just that and doesn't turn into an Honorable Discharge ever, unless petitioned to and granted by the appropriate service board of records corrections.

OTH is 2 steps down from Honorable, after General.

Under Other Than Honorable Conditions. OTH Discharges are warranted when the reason for separation is based upon a pattern of behavior that constitutes a significant departure from the conduct expected of members of the Military Services, or when the reason for separation is based upon one or more acts or omissions that constitute a significant departure from the conduct expected of members of the Military Services. Examples of factors that may be considered include the use of force or violence to produce serious bodily injury or death, abuse of a special position of trust, disregard by a superior of customary superior-subordinate relationships, acts or omissions that endanger the security of the United States or the health and welfare of other members of the Military Services, and deliberate acts or omissions that seriously endanger the health and safety of other persons.

Persons awarded an OTH characterization of service: are not entitled to retain their uniforms or wear them home (although they may be furnished civilian clothing at a cost of not more than $50); must accept transportation in kind to their homes; are subject to recoupment of any reenlistment bonus they may have received; are not eligible for notice of discharge to employers (which may affect unemployment benefits); and, do not receive mileage fees from the place of discharge to their home of record.

It is generally believed that an OTH Discharge will render an individual ineligible for all VA Benefits. This is not necessarily so. The Department of Veterans Affairs will make its own determination with respect as to whether the OTH was based on conditions which would forfeit any or all VA benefits. Most veterans' benefits will be forfeited if that determination is adverse to the former service-member, such as when based on the following circumstances: (1) Desertion; (2) escape prior to trial by general court-martial; (3) conscientious objector who refuses to perform military duties, wear the uniform, or comply with lawful orders of competent military authorities; (4) willful or persistent misconduct; (5) offense(s) involving moral turpitude; (6) mutiny or spying; or (7) homosexual acts involving aggravating circumstances.

Not sure what line of baloney you bought to make you think this, but there is no upgrade of discharge; you have to petition for it and then make your case as to why it should be upgraded. Pretty easy to research this online if you want to learn about it, rather than making wild claims like this one.

Circus Elephants Run Amok

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) — A homeowner in southern Sweden filed a police complaint after four circus elephants broke loose from their trainers and ran into his backyard, trampling the hedge and the lawn, a police spokesman said Thursday.
Mattias Lindell, 29, said the elephants completely ruined his garden last Monday, after animal trainers working for German-based Circus Mustang (search) lost control of the pachyderms when removing them from the vehicles they travel in.

The circus had put up its tent only a few feet away from his house outside Helsingborg, on Sweden's southwestern coast, Lindell told The Associated Press.

He filed a police complaint Wednesday, seeking damages for the destroyed hedge and ruined lawn, which was "just turned into dirt," he said.

However, it was not the ruined yard that had Lindell angry.

"I have a three-month old baby who often sleeps in the garden, in a carriage," he said. "If he had been doing that when this happened, things could have been a lot worse."

Circus Mustang officials could not be reached for comment.

I am terribly disappointed in my country right now. I never dreamed that this country could ever, through popular vote, install someone in office such as Germany did in the thirties. I thought we were too smart, too informed. I was wrong, all it takes is a liar, that captivates the populace. Truth does not matter, the puppets will blindly go and vote him in. It is the most chilling thing I have ever seen. "Wake up America" as Stan uses regularly does not even sum up the horrible situation at hand. It is not necessarily this election that is the worst, but the concept that this can be done in my country.

I have to say this now, Europe, I understand, finally, after most of a life time. One day unless America does in fact wake up, we will have the ultimate evil, popularly elected, our final downfall. The information is out there, the facts are circulated widely, the puppets go ahead and back the liar in great numbers. Does it take another Holocaust, another three and a half years like Europe experienced for the world to realize what they are doing? Deceit is winning the populace, Blacks are told they are not being counted, the young is told that the draft will take place, the Muslims are told that it is a racial undertaking because of 911, some stupid people even believe that 911 was planned by the Bush administration??? How stupid and naive can a people be?

When Clinton was running the people were convinced that a draft dodger was fine, that was not important, now Bush is put down for doing over five years as a fighter pilot, while a traitor is good for the country and a hero because of 3 1/2 months in Nam.

It does not matter what lies or stories are told by Kerry, the puppets keep right on, blindly urging him on. Republican headquarters are shot at, vandalism performed against them, but Kerry is still supported.

One advertisement shows Birmingham firefighters in the early sixties fire-hosing Blacks and this is related as how the Republicans will keep Blacks from voting. They don't bother to tell you that this was the Democrats that were in power and the Republicans trying to open up the schools to minorities. That the fire-hosing was the result of the Democratic Mayor and State Governor giving the orders. No, whatever is told to the puppets is believed and supported, regardless of the facts involved.

Do we as a people have to lose America to find our soul? It looks that way. But remember this, we had our day of freedom, we made the greatest country in history, do you really think that if we lose it we will get a second chance? Even the Third Reich could not do that. We still have the strongest nation ever created, the most moral in construction, Wake Up America, lets not lose it all now....

I haven't bothered to read this thread because I already know who I'm voting for and will not sway from that. However, the following was just e-mailed to me so I thought I'd post it here for anyone who may still be on the fence.

Have you seen the John Kerry commercial in which George Bush pledges to help Seniors on Medicare and "the very next day imposes a 17% premium increase - the biggest in history"? That ad is a stroke of genius on Kerry's part and will surely gain him many votes among the uninformed. I found it so amazing that I did some homework on the issue. As it turns out the 17% increase was not imposed by President Bush but was mandated by the "balanced budget agreement" signed by President Clinton, voted into law by Senator John Kerry, and was scheduled to come into effect during the Bush administration. President Bush had no authority to reverse what had been voted into law by Senator Kerry during the Clinton administration. Once again Kerry is counting on the ignorance of the American people. Don't be duped by his mendacity. Please keep it going!!!
I haven't taken the time to verify whether it's true or not. Frankly, I don't care enough to take the time to verify it. As I said, I already have my own belief on who the best man for the job is. But, it was sent to me by a credible source and I have no reason to doubt it.

By the way....while I was here I read Haulin's post above. Excellent (and frightening) post!!

No "baloney" I just did not realize that papers had to be filed. A family member received one for AWOL. The paperwork indicated that this would change after five years. Yes I was wrong, misinterperated the statement. It said that he would be elligable for an honorable after five years. From what you say, I am assuming that papers had to be filed to accomplish this. In his case, no matter, was the least of his problems. It did involve some medical problems also though.

Glad to see you finally get the whole picture

So very true what you say here as an informed voter would NEVER support Kerry as the facts are blatantly obvious what a mistake in judgement that would be.

Here's a great article that explains Kerry very well:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...2869_1,00.html

A great, well written opinion of who Kerry really is with some telling FACTS about his background.

Read the entire article. It gets better as you go on.

I'm from Mass so I already knew all about his background. He's been exposed by all the local newspaper writers.

designated letter writer.... Cajun

Dear Senator Kerry

I am Designated Letter Writer for the guys down to Daryl's Bait Shop here in Lagniappe, Louisiana. We have been shaking our heads over your stumbling campaign. It ain't so much we like you or your Party, but you are a fellow American, born in the U S of A, so we don't want you to disgrace yourself.

Here are 10 helpful hints we have worked up for you. (More, if you want them. Let us know.)

1. QUIT TELLING US THAT YOU SERVED IN NAM. You'd do yourself a favor if you didn't keep mentioning it every time someone pokes a microphone in your face. Geez, it was 35 years ago you did that for what was it, just four months? Some of us Daryl's Bait Shop guys spent more time than that in chow lines in Nam.

2. GET YOUR STORIES STRAIGHT. Admit you threw your or someone's medals and/or ribbons over the Capitol fence in '71, and you went touring around with Jane Fonda, and you testified falsely to atrocities by US troops. You ought to say that was all a youthful mistake. We've made a few. We understand.

3. TALK FRENCH TO FRENCH REPORTERS , IF YOU WANT TO. It's OK, we don't mind. Smilin' Jack Boudreaux can speak French, too, and we elected him Chief of the Lagniappe Volunteer Fire Company. We're not bigots. We call 'em as we see 'em, and make up our own minds.

4. BRAG ABOUT YOUR GOOD LUCK IN SNAGGIN' NOT ONE, BUT TWO RICH WIVES. Here at Daryl's we often wonder what it would be like to have a really rich wife. We speculate just how big a bass boat we could buy, along with one of those new Dodge Hemi trucks to pull it to the Bayou Blue boat landing. Smilin' Jack always points out how it's his cousins, T- Boy and Dickweed, who appear in those Dodge Hemi commercials, but still they can't afford one of their own. We chuckle at how we could be fishin' all day without a worry about where the money is coming from, just like you. You don't have to cook all of that ketchup, do you? Come on, tell the world how lucky you are. We here in South Louisiana respect achievement and don't begrudge someone's good fortune, even if he's a politician.

5. GO TO THE WRASSLIN' MATCHES AND HUSTLE VOTES. We've seen videotape of you on the ski slopes. Man, you got some good moves, yeah! It looks like you already know how to take a fall. All of us here (except GooGoo Gondron and Tib Thibodeaux) are great fans of wrasslin'. Not that we'd vote for you just because you was one. Choupique Chastant is a wrasslin maniac, but none of us would vote for him even if he was running for dogcatcher. So you got to tread easy on showing you're Joe Sixpack who just happened to go to Swiss prep school and St. Paul's School and Yale College Skull &Bones. We'd see through that pose in about a minute and a half and mark you for a hypocritical windbag and general liar. Don't go to the trouble of hanging a black velvet Elvis oil painting in any of your many living rooms. Weren't none of us that recently fell off a turnip truck.

6. TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE FOR. We already know what you're against.

7. QUIT BOWING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE U.N. AND PROMISING TO GO THERE FIRST THING, IF YOU ARE ELECTED PRESIDENT. We ain't all that impressed with the UN and we don't know why you are. Is there anything the UN has ever done right? Didn't they make a royal mess of that Iraq oil-for-food program, like BILLIONS OF DOLLARS that was skimmed off that just happened to land in their personal bank accounts? Seems to us they spend around 98 percent of their time passing resolutions that don't add up to a hill of beans.

8. QUIT FLIP-FLOPPING. If you're for lower gasoline prices in the morning, don't be proposing a 50 cents a gallon tax increase on gasoline in the afternoon. Saying one thing in Shreveport and the opposite in Baton Rouge don't inspire us with confidence in you as President. Maybe you should stay in the Senate where you got 99 other guys to share the responsibility with, especially since you've missed 89% of the roll call votes this year.

9. QUIT TELLING US HOW POOR AND UNEMPLOYED WE ARE. We got indoor toilets , color TV, cell phones, and computers. Give us Cajuns some credit for brains and understanding. We know economic conditions are good and getting better. Your telling us we're miserable, deluded fools just won't fly. And it gives us the distinct feeling that you're hoping for a relapse into recession to help your electoral chances.

10. GET IN TOUCH WITH THE REAL AMERICA. You have beaten all your Democratic opponents in the primaries. You still seem out of touch with your party and with America. Maybe you've been a pol too long, been campaigning too long and you need a break before the Convention. We all think the best thing you can do is haul out your Harley, put TeRAYza on the pillion and take off for the Sturgis South Dakota Bike Rally. Meet the folks. A few of us from Daryl's will be there. Y'all don't have to get tattooed. We promise.

Sincerely, Cooter

(with the considerable assistance of J. "Boud" Boudreaux

Like this is a surprise

(Oct. 18) -- Questions are being raised Monday about the partisan leanings of Judge Valerie Adair, the judge who ruled on Friday that the voter registration period in Clark County should not be reopened.

Did politics play a role in the judge's decision? Eyewitness News Investigative Reporter George Knapp reports some democrats think it might have.

On Friday, Judge Valerie Adair instructed the lawyers for the Clark County Election Department and the State Democratic Party to huddle together and bang out a compromise about whether voter registration could be opened up for a few hours to provide for those citizens who may have been disenfranchised by the alleged destruction of registration forms by a republican backed private company.

The judge told both sides to return at 4:30 p.m., at which time she might or might not rule. The deal worked out called for a three-hour window on Monday during which some voters could sign up again. But when the court reconvened Friday afternoon, there was no discussion of the plan.

The court informed both sides that there would be no comment at all, that the judge would read a statement. In her ruling, she turned down the request to reopen registration and said individual voters could file their own actions if they choose.

Democratic attorney Paul Larsen said in his 15 years of practice he's never had a judge ask for a deal and then tell him to keep quiet when he showed up to present it. The lack of input from the two sides caused some to question the judge's motives.

Sen. Dina Titus, (D) Clark County, said, "You never want to question a judge's ruling, but certainly in this case, which is so partisan and political to start with, you'd think she would have the common sense to disclose her partisan connection."

What is Adair's partisan connection? She's listed online as an active member in the National Federal of Republican Women. County records show she also owns a home with Tom Lozzi, who is listed on the website of the Clark County Republican Party as an officer in that group.

Lozzi is also related by marriage to Republican Senator John Ensign. Lozzi told the I-Team by phone that he had no idea the GOP website lists him as an officer because he is not active with the party, although he was a few years ago.

Judge Adair cannot comment, but a court spokesman says that she expected the lawyers in the case to submit the proposed compromise to her before the 4:30 hearing so she could review it.

Lawyer Paul Larsen says that's not the way he heard it, and even if so, he wonders why the judge didn't at least question the parties when they sat before her.

Dina Titus said, "That sounds like revisionist history. I think she decided she didn't want to hear the arguments; she had made up her mind and issued her opinion. She told them to work it out. Why in the world didn't she ask them, do you have a compromise? Both sides would have been willing to tell her, but they never had the opportunity."

The bottom line is that the questions are more than mere political sniping. They could provide yet another basis for post election challenges -- in court.

Mary Ann Miller of the D.A.'s office, who represents the election department, told the I-Team late Monday that she also thought the two sides were supposed to hand something into the judge before the 4:30 hearing, but she is unsure why the judge chose to ask no questions once the hearing began.

(Oct. 18) -- The man whose allegations started the furor over voter registration in Las Vegas met with the FBI Monday afternoon.

Eric Russell is a former employee of Voters Outreach of America. He told Eyewitness News that he saw his employers destroy registration forms that had been filled out by democrats.

Last week Russell visited the FBI but left before filing a formal complaint. Informed sources tell us that Russell met with FBI agents Monday and presented them with the same documentation he provided to news reporters last week.

Russell's attorney, Michael Mushkin says that both Russell and his girlfriend Ashley Tims will cooperate fully with any law enforcement agencies that ask for their assistance.
