Plow trucks and transmissions failing

I've been amusing myself looking at CL for low buck plow trucks. I see quite a few of them with failed transmissions. All automatics with failed reverse. They have drive but no reverse. What is the weak link in automatics. Just for my own information.

thanks

Probably has a lot to do with operator error. If you slam into a pile and then drop into reverse and back out of it without waiting the split second for the bands/clutches to fully engage, you burn up the trans.

Most 1st and reverse are on the same band, so it's seeing double duty. Plow blocks air passing through the cooler combined with heavy load at low speed. Also a lot of guys push the banks from a stop, instead of coasting into them, letting the momentum push the snow. Also need to stop now and then, put in neutral to keep the fluid pumping and let it cool off a bit.
