I got 20/100 rain today!!! I think this is the third rain I have had to dump out of my rain gauge, I've had it about a year now.
Looked at a rifle at wally's-mart tonight. Remington 770 in 243 win with 3-9x40 scope, $300. Even at that price and with the scope I don't think I will get one. I don't know if it's because there is too much clearance or if it's because the front of the bolt isn't supported, but there is a lot of side play in the bolt and it hangs when cycled. Definitely built to a price point, not to a minimum quality. Oh, and though the (plastic) magazine drops out easily, it can be a pain to slide back in. There's no rails or anything to guide it, you have to hold it at the proper angle to the receiver and snap it in.
Looking at tires too. The Amigo needs a set, preferably before it gets really hot out. Wally's-mart doesn't have the BFG AT-TA-KO's listed online, but they have some DUnlop Mud Rovers listed, anyone have any opinion on them? Travis (who I bought it off of) and Bart (who he bought it off of) really like the TA-KO's, but I like the Dynapro MT's the boss runs and might just go with those.

Morning all.
Monday, April 8th.
1789 - The U.S. House of Representatives held its first meeting.
1832 - About 300 American troops of the 6th Infantry left Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, to confront the Sauk Indians in the Black Hawk War.
1873 - Alfred Paraf patented the first successful oleomargarine.
1913 - The Seventeenth amendment was ratified, requiring direct election of senators.
1935 - The Works Progress Administration was approved by the U.S. Congress.
1939 - Italy invaded Albania.
1942 - The Soviets opened a rail link to the besieged city of Leningrad.
1952 - U.S. President Truman seized steel mills to prevent a nationwide strike.
1953 - The bones of Sitting Bull were moved from North Dakota to South Dakota.
1986 - Clint Eastwood was elected mayor of Carmel, CA.
1998 - The widow of Martin Luther King Jr. presented new evidence in an appeal for new federal investigation of the assassination of her husband.
2000 - 19 U.S. troops were killed when a Marine V22 Osprey crashed during a training mission in Arizona.
2001 - Microsoft Corp. released Internet Explorer 6.0.
Today's thought:
You may not like guns, that is your right. You may not believe in God, that is your choice. But if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you are going to do are call someone with a gun and pray they get there in time!

Got a question for some of you folks of the timber cutting types.....and this has probably been beat to death.....but, I want, uh, need to purchase a chainsaw. I don't wanna get a cheaper one that might be prone to problems but I also don't need to break the bank either. What do you guys/gals with LOTS of experience recommend I look into?
Good Morning Viet oops...DTR!!
THANK YOU CHAIKWA for posting the history, it is very much appreciated!
also gives the regular feel to this site.....you know how we like to be regular. snicker
ScotPA, like the dynapro, they are hard enough wearing for an all around
trail tire at a reasonable price. I am a goodyear fan, have those on the 46 ******, 62 wilys. have to get tires for my 08 liberty and want something longer lasting than the wranglers....
JH, gotta be a Stihl for all around versatility, forgiveness and something that will last seven years of abuse. If it will be sitting on the shelf, get a husqvarna but you will pay more, have parts problems and talk funny.
good to see ya!

I've been leaning towards a Stihl but am unsure if the HD stores or Lowes sells a commercial duty jobber or if I'd be better off going to one of our local lawn stores that deals with nothing but the best of the best......but their prices reflect it as well. Thanks for the input Heidi.....I'm sure a certain chaikwa will have a say in this as well!!
try ordering online, we have to as we have to drive so far for stores.

As for Husqvarna, any warranty claims I've ever made, (which have been far and few between), have been taken care of no questions asked. I bought a brand new 3120 for a chainsaw mill and the cylinder became scored and the saw inoperable after about a year. I told them what I was doing with it from the start and the reason I went with Husky was because they told me that application was no problem. Stihl told me there would be NO warranty if I used the saw in a milling application. I called Husky and they issued another brand new saw within the week and took back the old one with the shipping for both on their bill.
Bottom line for you, I would think, is a local dealer who will stand behind the product and give decent service.
I'd use a Stihl unless I was doing production falling or sawing. To me the Stihl's are just... I dunno... 'clunky' I guess is a good word. They don't seem to have the balance I'm used to with the Husky's.
The other thing is, I don't think you can get a Stihl in the big box stores, only at dealers. The Husky's are sold in stores, but only the consumer line that has a 'composite' crankcase and aluminum cranks. The 'XP' line of Husky's is the professional grade with metal cranks and crankcases and those are only available at their dealers.
You may find a good deal on old new stock if there's a decent sized Husky dealer near you. They've just come out with their updated product line and might be trying to get rid of the older, non-EPA stuff.
I have heard from a 'reliable source' that Jonsered is going to be available at Tractor Supply in the near future. They never made a vary large saw, but what they made was good stuff. Who makes them now is anyone's guess however.

You KNOW what I'd tell you. But all kidding aside, they're both good saws. Only thing with Stihl is that they play games with their warranties. On-line sales may require you to return it to the online seller for warranty work. And if you buy from a source that sourced it's saws thru an out of country supplier, the warranty may be void. If you purchase in Canada and bring the saw to the US, the warranty WILL be void. And visa-versa. They won't give a reason for it, it's 'just their policy'.

I bought a little Poolawn because I needed one now and it was priced right (the amount I had in my pocket). So far, it's been a good little saw.
Still snowing. I think I can sell snow shoes to moose now.

I think Jonsered and Husqvarna are part of the same company. I know if you have a bunch of parts laying around, it's pretty easy to build up a Jonsvarna, or is it a Husqered.
I've had pretty good luck with the farm and ranch sized Husky's. My son set the 55 down in the middle of the woods road, and proceeded to run over it with the 4x4. It's plastic, but it's tougher than nails. I replaced the horseshoe chain bar and a couple of ***** and had it back in service in a couple of hours.

wow is it dry! planted some and had to water just to set root stock.
tractors across valley blazing dust trails for miles.
hubby and I did sneak away on the harley for an errand run to NAPA, out for a hot dog (traditional first ride) and back home between the raindrops.
one of those days, if he touched something, it broke. glad we have humor in our relationship.......
squirrel saga: lil bugger took my suet roll right of the nail post. 4 lb ten dollar roll. AR 15 open sights and a .22. I got close enough to make him change directions and walk funny. I feel guilty for being so happy with this opportunity. I will eat him when I get him. got more meat on his bones than my son....

Hahahahaha

Ran a pasture today that needs its barb wire gone. You can stretch the heck outta it, but you can't tighten it. Didn't set my last post and put insulators on around the pen, put in the last post I set, picked up the tamper and turned to put it on the bike, and my back decided it was a good time to hurt like an SOB.
Checked out the bar that the one bar maid from the old bar that I went to went to work at once the old bar closed. Drink prices are the same, but they don't measure, so the drinks are stronger, the food is about the same price, but the plates are bigger, and fuller, and the food's a lot better. And it's 12 miles closer to home.
Was thinking of going to Danbury tonight but I think I'll stay home, drink a Redd's Apple Ale, and maybe see if I can mix something up quick for some kind of a supper.
