I am not going any where.... took me too long to bury all those land mines and set up the claymores...not to mention the ditches full of burning oil that surround the place If it gets too bad I call redleg with a fire mission

Ok, that's about what I expected.

Some pretty good points, specifically about having to bug out. Doesn't necessarily mean you can't have additional supplies, but they had be very well hidden. Should you have to BO, assuming you survive, you can come back when the area is not hot.

And yea, dollar bills will not have any value, but even esoteric things like surgical clamps, water purification tablets, tarps, etc. will be quite valuable. Kind of hard to wrap your mind around the fact that the guy who has 10,000 of FRNs might just trade it for a 3.99 Wal-Mart blue tarp........

I personally have adopted Wyo's non firearms philosophy......

At least around here, wild game will be decimated in short order, so we have Chickens that can be secured, and plans are in place to start raising Rabbits, they are a pain to raise, but multiply fairly rapidly and can be done in the barn, away from predators.

I have considered not bugging out, but I do believe if it gets too rough, I will be forced to head south to my sisters place, nice farm setup, reasonably well defensible, and would have family to share the guard duties....

The rest is reasonably well covered, at least I believe it is, I have to get some more PMs, work on a railroad cart that can easily be made into a road cart, perhaps even some form of locomotion, though that is getting pretty intricate for something you need to be able to pull......after all that, I think about the last thing I need is a decent Night Vision setup.

Oh well, life in these Modern times.......

Jeff, I'll be on my way there too as soon as it happens!! I will pick up a travel trailer and as much extra diesel as I can haul. Other than that I have a couple guns and a small amount of ammo. Never really worried too much about a complete and total collapse of the country. Seriously doubt it could be possible.

I have no intention of moving out. I will stay and defend if necessary, beyond that I am not sure I am the nomadic type, or even want to find out. It will be made very clear that if you stray, you will pay. I kinda figure that if you are out wandering, trouble is a lot easier to find.

I fortunately have geography and the way my land is laid out to my advantage. Big field drains, railroad tracks, deep bar ditches, canals, and a good size river limit access. you pretty much have to enter on foot. And I can see you nearly a mile away, and you can't necessarily see me. I also have a great deal of solar energy that I can exploit. I am currently working on a hot air heating system to heat the house. Which I am not doing for survival, just to save some money. So we will be warm, even in -28. It's just cooking, long term that may turn out to be a problem. Roasting inbred stray cats that wander in over a campfire will be a drag after a while.

And again, I promise, cross my heart, I do not have a single firearm or bullet on my property. So No need to look.

On edit, Door is open chad. Many hands make light work!!! besides if you can't have a big ol party at the end, what the heck are we all working for!!!

I have a bugout bag but most likely won't leave my dwelling establishment. Lots of other preparedness but not in an open forum.

I don't believe the worst situation that anyone can dream up, is actually going to happen. You can always dream up something bad enough in a specific way to defeat your preparations. For instance, how would you prepare for an asteroid strike? A terrorist nuclear attack?

One of the worst places to be, even in a mild emergency, is in the city. Immediate chaos and rioting and looting occurs with a police shooting, a power failure or an earthquake. Imagine the blocking of the Straits of Hormuz. Think of an asteroid strike!

Loss of power or water would easily bring on chaos and panic, as it has in the past, and an immediate tripling of gas prices would really cripple the economy and make everyone mad. Look out if that happens.

I won't run my life around fear of an imagined problem, but I don't like vulnerability of the big city life either. Out where I hang out I have a few neighbors on their own plots. We all know each other, are stable and trust each other. I have a well I can run on my generator, gravity water feed to the house if the pressure or power fails, wood heat, guns and ammo, and some fuel. We don't stock much food, but there is lots of wildlife tooling around on the place including rabbits and deer. And we owe nothing on the place.

Our society is not going to suddenly collapse into complete chaos. I see those fears as mainly vivid imaginations in people that hate the current politicians and are continually ramping up the paranoia and fear. Much of it based on the rantings of TV and radio personalities who make a living by scaring those who can't read or think. Mainly people driven by fear. It reminds me of the Y2K fear and paranoia that gripped so many. Sheesh.

People seem to forget that this is a democracy. The politicians were put there by us and represent us. We have the best government money can buy, or that fear can scare up They are our employees and they are very good at telling us what we want to hear. We seem to like it that way. So we are likely to bring a collapse upon ourselves.

Not likely diesel will be available in a real emergency as the roads will be jammed and the lines will be impossible at the fuel station. You might not have enough money to pay the price and, without power, it won't be available anyway.

Seems we always have to imagine a scenario that is only bad in a way we are prepared to deal with. Not likely.

How well is this going to work with a shovel to defend yourself?

You can dig a hole and hide until someone from the government comes to provide you with federal aid.

I'm like wyododge, no firearms here, except a broken bb gun, and I'll use my extra Daisy bb's for barter material! Then like Blake, I'll wait for my goverment check to come in the mail. Surely the postal service will still function!

Im with you fellas, I dont condone the ownership of firearms much.

I did have a slingshot once, but the rubber band broke

So now I pretty much just throw rocks when I need.

It has a REALLY long handle and I keep it very sharp. I also have Blake's face painted on it, that will scare most anyone away.
