Question odd question don't know where else to go please help

I know this is not the time nor the place for this but i can't find anything anywhere else. i just bought a 85 chevy swb reg cab 4x4. It needs a whole new wiring harness. the previous owner ripped the old one completely out... but my question is should i go with a painless and if so who is the cheapest person that would have it for sale???????????????

I checked into painless for my mustang (90 LX) and found it wasn't "like stock". I think they cater to a different crowd. If i remember correctly it was like $600.

I've bought and sold a few cars in my time and if anyone had messed with the wiring harness or pulled the fuel injection I'd pass on it.

Maybe you could buy a wrecked truck and swap the wiring.

Go to the 73-87 forum. I used this site on my old chevy 1 ton I had.

painless is good stuff, i think that's who i used for me 68 beetle.

I'm not real experienced with doing that type of thing, but in my experience things like that i've tried to go the cheap route and it's only been big headaches. Painless stuff is really well put together and suppose to be easy to install

could also check ebay

Best bet is to pick up a used harness from a salvaged truck. As suggested start posting on some truck forums for that year.

As for painless. Yes they are certainly catering to a different crowd. There is alot of custom work to be done to install one of there kits. Usually better for a street/strip truck where things have been modified beyond what the factory harness can handle.

if you are talking complete (engine, cab, chassis) and the truck has any electronics on it, I would advise spending the money for the painless. you get new connectors, you dont have to remove one from another vehicle either.

I spent so much time trying to fix a Ford ranger with a similar problem. Most of my dash stuff still does work. Wish I would have just spent the $ on a new harness instead of trying to piece a junk yard one together.

Ive always been partial to Centech and Ron Francis. Painless has good stuff, but its a little pricier. Still good stuff though. Do a search with those names and visit their websites. I've used both and they are both great quality. Centech is usually the cheapest of all of them, but Ive always been very pleased with their stuff. Ron Francis stuff is nice but can get pricey real quick.

LMC or any of the truck resto places might have them. I dunno. Good luck with the search.

Have good one.
