NRA members: did you get a card back from Weyerhaeuser?

Weyerhaeuser was one of the companies that fired folks from having their guns on company property.
that's debatable either way,

but NRA sent out postcards to members, like 4 postcards, for members to sign, stamp, and send out to several companies (AOL? and.....uh....uh..i forgot..) to show support for NRA and that NRA does do ....something...

but Weyerhaeuser did send me a nice litte 3x5 card back, saying that their main interest was "SAFETY of our employees" (sic)

thought that was decent of them to at least respond in an intelligent manner.
at least they are considering things.
they did poke NRA a bit for "fostering a debate over the wrong concerns" which might be correct to an extent.

haven't gotten anything... never heard of them.

my company recently outsourced its workmans comp insurance and payroll to a 3rd party company. they say no one is allowed to have a weapon on company property. i advised them i have been hunting on this company's property since before i'd ever heard of them and will continue to carry a loaded .45 in my truck at all times as the sheriff of this county licensed me to do! that and the boss has a gun cabinet in his office. i guess its relative being a family company, but still. the law is the only entity that tells me where i can and cannot carry a firearm.

I'm a life member and that is the first that I have heard about a firing at a paper company. I can't carry on company property either. But I don't have too. There are plenty of well armed security at a nuke power plant. I just wish sometimes when traveling at night that I could keep one in the truck. Population density isn't very high down here. Mostly whitetails, possum and skunks.

I remember when i had a carry permit. I had a Glock in a holster behind the seat of my truck. A friend was driving (I was half asleep in the passenger seat). My friend turned around, backing out onto a state road. We saw blue lights, got pulled over, and my buddy had is license run. The state trooper came back, and was about to let us go, when he noticed the glock in the back (I was half asleep and had forgotten about it, otherwise I would have mentioned it when he first got to the vehicle).

Well my buddy got slammed forward into the steering wheel, I saw a gun come out next to me (second trooper in the car was next to my open window), and I was then thrown up against the dash. One trooper pulled the gun and holster out while the other was yelling at us to stay forward and show our hands. The cop who had my gun then grabbed for his cuffs and was about to yank us out of the cab, but I was continually telling them I had a permit. He asked if it was loaded, and I responded that an empty gun was pretty useless. He said there wasn't a permit that allowed me to have a loaded weapon in the vehicle. Well the permit was to carry a concealed, loaded weapon. I gave it to him, and he pulled the clip out of the gun.

Well thats when the crap hit the fan for the second time. I had Black Tallons in it. He proceeded to inform me that they were illegal "cop killer" bullets. I said I had never killed a cop in my life. He said those would go through their vests, which I said was wrong, they were just hollow points meant for superior stopping power. Well he said I was going to jail, and left his buddy to watch us while he went back to the cruiser. After about a half hour, he cameback and said that I could have my gun back, but that I had better not keep it loaded, and if he found out the bullets were illegal, he would be at my door arresting me. He handed back my gun and clip, and I took them, put the clip in the gun, put the gun in the holster, and put it back where it had been. He was extremely ******, but let us go.

In all, we had been held up at least 45 minutes for doing absolutely nothing wrong, just because our own police don't know the law. I don't have a carry permit any more, but someday, if I go back to having to drive in bad areas, I might get one again.

search for ConocoPhillips on NraIla.org =

LaPierre spoke at a rally to support Idabel employees fired by Weyerhaeuser because they kept legally owned firearms safely stored in their locked vehicles in a public access company parking lot.

http://www.kuhf.org/site/News2?JServ...mb4ujgz7.app5b

The National Rifle Association today announced plans to boycott Houston-based ConocoPhillips. The dispute involves the company's suit to block an Oklahoma law allowing employees to keep guns in their vehicles while parked in company parking lots. NRA executive Wayne LaPierre announced the boycott in Idabel, Oklahoma at a rally. The show of support was for employees fired by Weyerhauser in 2002 after guns were found in their cars and trucks in the employee parking lot. Weyerhaeuser says the weapons violated a new company policy, but the fired workers say they weren't told of the rule. LaPierre says ConocoPhillips filed a lawsuit challenging a law passed last year to prevent companies from firing employees because they have a gun inside their locked car or truck. The boycott targets Conoco and Phillips 66 gas stations.

I have made reference to this in a couple different threads with mixed reactions. I sent my cards out and have not received anything back. I am a Endowment Life Member with honors, and Member of the Second Amendment Task Force. FOr those of you who have not heard anything about this I would strongly recommend going to the NRA site and registering for the daily news updates. There you can search for the articles and statements regaurding this situation.

That's weird. I have been a member since I was 18 and a Life Member since I turned 21 in 2000, but I never received an e-mail notice regarding the Weyerhauser incident. I wish I had.

Re: ConocoPhillips

I don't know of a single oil company that allows firearms, drugs, alcohol or cameras on company property. Most of their suppliers (including my employer) operate under the same restrictions - we don't even allow cellular phones with camera features on our property.

This issue really pits the rights of a private property owner against the second amendment rights to keep and bear arms. Do you, as a property owner, have the right to say who does and doesn't come onto your property and what they bring with them? I certainly do - if someone doesn't like my rules, their option is not to come onto my property. (And, yes, I'm a gun owner as well.)

but if it is inside my car or truck, it is not on there property. hey if they would have just told everyone no more guns it would have been fine. but they did it kind of sneeky like and did a company search on opening day of deer season.

If your car or truck is on their parking lot, it (and everything in it) is on their property.
