Night run to the beach
I had a small job to do tonight down by the beach so after I got finished we (family) took a ride South on Hwy.39 to Huntington Beach and walked out onto the pier.
I took a few pictures of the pier and coast (actually about 30) using a slow time exposure of about 2 seconds however not bringing my tripod the camera was handheld so that is why it is a bit shaky.
It was dark out and the only ambient light from the High Pressure Sodium street lights.
The nice thing about long exposures, the longer you leave the shutter open, the brighter it gets and also moves.
I have night shots where you can see the circles caused by the stars and planets as the earth rotates.
The longest timed exposure I have is for 2 hours using a film SLR camera.
It was pitch black out and the picture looked like daylight.

The grandstands are up for some Surfing Competitions next week.

Steam powerplant on the right is off Harbor Blvd.
As you can see from the first picture, it was dark and you could barely see the water.

This was using my Canon 30D & 18-55 mm lens.
This is about the ONLY reason I would not want to leave Southern California.

Nice.... I used to go to Huntington, Hermosa, Belmont Shores, Newport, etc. as a kid. I miss the beach. I'm 10 minutes from the beach now and can't go there for most of the year because of an endangered bird ( snowy plover). I'm about due to get a better camera. I bought a 1.3 MP sony cybershot about 7 years ago. It's pretty good for point and shoot basic pictures but you really can't do much with it. I pretty much use it for work. ( taking pictures under houses and in attics) When I get ready to buy a new one I may need some advice. :0)
Thats pretty cool man.
I have a link to some pictures you might like, from Yosemite National Park, I will send you the link, since some bad language is probably on that site. Some cool night shots and stuff.

That takes me back, man. I grew up near Encinitas and went to HB to surf and girl watch whenever possible. All my old buds are lifeguards around there now...or were! Nice photos. Kurt
Cool pics!! I spent many a summers in HB and NB. We use to have a beach house on 19th st. 2 blocks south of newport pier. I have a ton of GREAT memories from down there.
I agree, that is one of the things i will miss when we get out of ca.
