New vehicle tracking ???

I have a vin # from a freind of mine, that has a new 2010 Dodge 1500 on order. Dealer is no help on vehicle delivery date. How, or where can I check or track where the vehicle is in production, or shipping??

When the Challengers were coming out in 08, a salesman told me when they recieve a VIN it takes about 2 weeks to get the vehicle.

It seems to me that the VIN is assigned once a order is scudualed. So it still could be weeks, to months, if parts or paint or something gets restricted.

If a order is put to D (Firm Schedule - dealer has allocation and all parts available.) or D1 (Gateline schedule - scheduled to be built.), then the VIN will be created. The allocation could be the issue for a delay. Dealers are allocated a number of certain models based on what they have been moving. So if you order a truck that isn't often sold by the dealership, allocation could take awhile unless another dealership doesn't use their full allocation of vehicles.

I believe there is already a thread with the list of Order Codes. Just for quick info.
BX - Passed edit available for schedule.
C = sub firm.
D, then D1.
E - Frame
F - Paint
G - Trim
I - Built not ok'd
J - Built ok'd.
Then a selection of J's, Then a bunch of tracking K*** codes for all the ways they may be shipped.

Info is power.
